We really love it when it all goes sideways with these plants huh!

Yep I love it when they do that.

For the history this is the Kadakuda strain that had gone crest for a long time. Still got crests off it, but these where cut to produce columnar clones. Of course another long term project of this is getting one to flower!

Looking good.

I saw plants doing this called 'inermis' or what ?

What ever the case, I have seen this reptile skin appearance in my other crest-only euro-sourced pachanoi.

Lizard skin rules, unless you are a Krokodil addict (totally bad, nasty humour)

This is a TPM x SS02 - this plant was grown under natural light, but then I've grafted a couple sections of it - one to pereskiopsis just recently, and another to pachanoi - the pachanoi graft has much thicker crests than the natural mother plant. Also, the mother plant looks like it's wanting to throw out some more normal or monstrose columns - this is my fav of the 4 seedlings I have from that cross.

I haven't brought any new plants into the collection in years, but that TPM x SS02 is a stunning plant.

I have a couple freaks in here, but nothing special.

i found this crest on new years, it was a huge cactus with a lot of crested branched, so i asked the owner and he gladly told me to take whatever i want. So i took this piece. i thought it was an opuntia type of cactus but now i'm doubting it since it doesn't have any glochids

image-17.jpg

Hey man, that looks like a Copiapoa cinerea crest. If so that's a rather old plant. Score!

^^^

good eye

I have a couple freaks in here, but nothing special.

lol give us a break. what makes a freak special if not the individual size/ age and most importantly shape ?

your pachanoi crest / monsters are some ofthe best I have seen

the fact that ytou maintain a relatively small growth rate per year as it seems [clay pots too] might play a role in the nice shape

OR

the strains you got are special or what...

I would love a cutting of your 'not so special monsters', only to compare with the crest only pachanoi and kadakuda strain. I feel it is different than both of my clones, but maybe its wishful thinking

nitrogen these long spine hybrid monsters are something else!

how do you feel for knowing you will become immortla through these strains??

:)

Michael, you always astonish with the very tidy appearance of your collection. Are you a virgo (sign) ?

I was born under the sign of Virgo, but because common astrology doesn't keep up with the procession of the equinoxes I get called a Libra.

The crest in the middle of pic 1 is about 30-35cm wide, and the cutting that is about 80cm tall are from the same mother plant that is pic 3.
I saw it and asked the owner who was a very kind elderly gentleman, who said to take whatever i wanted.

It is some type of Cereus sp. ,as the flowers show.

Sydney RBG has something very similar, as does Hamilton's Cacti, but my investigations haven't confirmed what exactly.

Hey lucid1, that is a beautiful looking Cereus, with a pink flower :worship: . It looks similar to the Cereus Hildmannianus var monstrose I see around & have in s/e QLD, but it is obviously different. If you ever get your hands on a spare cutting PLEASE let me know as I would be happy to trade you one of my monstrose cuttings, I am always looking for new Cereus monstrose genes to cross with mine . Here are a few photos of mine

Sorry the first two are side ways

Red flower in cereus ??!!?!

I was born under the sign of Virgo, but because common astrology doesn't keep up with the procession of the equinoxes I get called a Libra.

fuck that, astrology is not astronomy, the equinoxes get mentioned by sceptics and non-believers.

according to astrology you are virgo. astronomy is un-related to astrology

but non believers do not accept zodiac signs in the first place so??

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at mutant, but I'm a non-believing skeptic that was simply answering your question.

Beautiful mutant Cerues Peruvianus TheExplorer!

I am not a fan of the name Cereus Peruvianus. I used to use this name but after many hours of reading about the Cereus species, I have come to realize that this name is no longer in use but sadly most of the Cereus spp still get called C.peruvianus. The most up to date info I can find says there are from 35 to 40 Cereus species & with more detailed studies this number will fall as some get move to other families of cacti. Out of these 35 to 40 Cereus that are currently in the family non are named C.peruvianus anymore.

@lucid1, from what I can find your plant seems to fit best as Cereus repandus. I have seen photos of these with pink flowers.

Cheers

I had an other wise normal semi-monstrose pach do something funny.

Semi-monstrose pachanoi?

I first thought it was gonna go crested, but now I think it may just be throwing pups/branching without terminating.

Picked up a new crested TBM. The guy I bought it from said is it originally from Kada's Garden.

New TBM Crest

It's a shitty cell phone pic unfortunately.

I also acquired this giant TBM.

New TBM

Once again a shitty cell pic

Yeah that's the one I was talking about. It was sitting around on the ground for months after they chopped it down, but it's all gone now (including the stump).
