Weazelloph, you have got to grow them from seed, buying plants is way too expensive in my opinion, and graft if you don't have 20-30 odd years to wait for a 50c coin size growth :) Also they are easier to keep alive when grafted the only problem is Fissuratus, they grow very slowly and are extremely difficult to degraft, for some reason they just don't want to throw roots.

Additionally you will very rarely find one at a nursery they simply grow too slow for them to be a worth while business venture. Private collectors is where you will find plants or here on the forum, I sold one last week in trade and sell.

Couple more Ario's. I really like the character of the second one especially for such a young age.

wow guys... Im just starting with these...

here are my Ario Fissuratus

Two grafts doing well! Sewn 12-13-12 and Grafted on 1-11-13... I was trying to get these sewn before midnight on
12-12-12 but I was ocd about the seed placment.. took me 3 hours to sew 7 soup bowls lol so they
were sewn on 12-13-12 just after midnight...

I like how these are two different shades.. even the tufts are different, one is bright and one is dark

Seedlings from the same batch, just over 3 months old, also different shades
They must be playing :P

post-11432-0-81980000-1363922043_thumb.j

I've also recently sewn some Ariocarpus Restusus cv Confusus and Turbinicarpus Lophophoroides
Plus the vendor is sending me more Lophophoroides seeds soon and some surprise seeds
that will either be Ario or Turbinis...

Cheers :)

Okay so I ended up getting a few of these that im pretty excited to see grow... I stressed a bunch over making the best mineral mix I could, but finally I found the stuff I was looking for nearby... at places I normally wouldn't have discovered had it not been for these little cacti lol the 3 Turbinis had dried flowers already and all on their own roots of course

labels: Turbinicarpus Booleanus(FL), Turbinicarpus Schmiedickeanus ssp Klinkerianus(FR), Ariocarpus Restusus(No Aereoles)(BL), and Turbinicarpus Viereckii Neglectus(BR)

post-11432-0-02813500-1366761112_thumb.j

also I grafted some of the A. Restusus Confusus to pereskies almost 2 weeks ago

Well the toughest to find was limestone but turned out to be plentiful... about 20% limestone pieces screened, granite grit (and small amount of granite sand), coarse sand, and probably about 10-15% loamy organic stuff... for the booleanus a little different with a pinch of gypsum... then all were top dressed with larger granite and limestone pieces I pulled out and some sand eh

Dunno if I'd call it magick but it's a mix... nottin special, I hope it works anyhow

Im catching up!

My magic mix worked great! It wasn't long I had my first cactus flowers on the T. Viereckii Neglectus... The day after Viereckii stopped flowering, Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. klinkerianus put out some flower buds then swiftly flowered... then both flowered again a few days apart... then finally last week, they both sent out a 3rd set of flowers at the same time.. I have no idea if they'll cross... I tried to pollinate the first time times but no fruits... the cool thing was, my hoophouse leaked some water onto the Viereckii before I changed the tarp.. I was pissed cause I read not to let the hair get wet... but the drop of water ended up revealing that approximately 60 seeds were just hiding out under its hairdo! I thought that was pretty fucking cool!... Not sure how old they are but I will sew some very soon :D

Unfortunately I haven't seen any fruits or any noticable swelling yet... I did notice this time that it appears some bugs

were screwing around in the flowers so maybe it was bees or moths... I found a dead bee a tray over and I've never seen a bee in there.. it was pretty dried out tho.... anyways... I like how they look when the flowers close

post-11432-0-28675100-1374972564_thumb.j post-11432-0-02465300-1374972582_thumb.j

If anyone has any tips on getting these to pollinate i'd appreciate it... I tried to follow what I've read to help out and even left some flowers to their own... i've used a cotton swab and pointed the tip, but maybe a paintbrush would be better I dunno..

Now here is an update on the Fissuratus Grafts performed on 1-11-13 , sewn a month earlier on 12-12-12 give or take an hour...

post-11432-0-62654100-1374972845_thumb.j post-11432-0-53910600-1374972920_thumb.j post-11432-0-44595000-1374972940_thumb.j

and I think this one is sporting a flower bud... which if it is, is pretty awesome for such a short time

post-11432-0-40118900-1374973356_thumb.j post-11432-0-22214800-1374973371_thumb.j
Is that a flower bud??? Noticably smaller than on the older ones... but it sure looks like it, and on a seedling less than 8 months old and 7 months grafted ... I've been peeking 3 times a day, has grown maybe a milimiter in the last 2 or 3 days.

and these next ones are Ariocarpus Restusus Confusus and T. Lophophoroides... I noticed the two Arios which are in their own pots, have more hair than the ones I put 3 to a pot, but I think they're slightly older... I've been feeding the multiples slighly more... im wondering if a little more might inspire some fuzzyness....

post-11432-0-68110300-1374974335_thumb.j post-11432-0-34866100-1374974354_thumb.j post-11432-0-47220400-1374976428_thumb.j

These two T. Lophophoroides grafts were the same seedling, one upside down of course... Was one lucky seedling too... at less than a month, the seed head was stuck to it so I tried to carefully rip it off and some skin came with it... I just put it back in a tiny hole and crossed my fingers... ended up with a tiny skinny little seedling which ended up being a fabulous grafted specimen! :D and the upside down half is looking like it could earn the name 'caespitosa' eh (I know it probably due to grafting and nutes but its pupping alot more than the others ... the 3 in the same pot were grafted pups off these two and 1 from another, which you are about to see after these...

post-11432-0-31369700-1374974771_thumb.j post-11432-0-59734800-1374974788_thumb.j post-11432-0-61651500-1374974805_thumb.j

and for the biggest surprise of all... these 2 were grafted on 4-26 and 5-17, sewn in Valentines day 2013
and if my eyes aren't lying this is nothing short of a pleasant surprise.. someone on here told me there was little to no chance they would flower in less than a year...and technically they haven't yet, but chances are good I think!... They are sorta tiny for flower buds too so if it could be anything else, let me Gno!

They sure as hell look like little flower buds to me! If so, Maybe the fact that im in Texas helped out :P

But wait, there's more! chuckle...
Whats this??? Anyone Gno? Pupping roots or Chimera? I've been thinking its roots but cool as hell either way

My first from seed that I sewed, to have a flower open! The other one has more buds but they didn't swell up yet..

the ariocarpus bud has swelled up just a hair...
This plant was sewn 2-14-13 and grafted on 5-17-13
