At the start of this year I was living in a mini-dome for a couple of months. A geodesic dome roof ontop of a square room (mostly windows) which was about 2.5metres wide and 3metres long. Downstairs..or underneath, as there were no stairs, was another room cut into the earth that had a small potbelly and a kitchen in progress of being created. I absolutely loved it. I will take a picture when I next go to my friends house. I had expected living in such a tiny space would feel icky, claustrophobic, but it wasn't at all. It was like a little nest. It really made me consider what stuff I actually needed around me. I was happy with books and plants. Everything else could be left in storage.

As we continue to horrendously overpopulate the planet, I expect living spaces to become smaller and smaller.

I am keen to embrace it and make sure my own one is a wee gem, rather than a government appointed grey box.

Cheers all - hopefully I'll be able to post some pics of another shack that I actually build myself somewhere down the line!

Glad I made ya smile waterboy, this actually happened a little while ago but I only pulled my finger out to write about it this week because I thought you could use some cheering up & remembered about this thread. It makes me smile too - and I'd been drooling over the pics in here for so long - it's incredible to think that I could put some of the ideas into practice finally. I'm still in shock I think. I'm finding that I have to think about things in little bite-sized pieces - how do I cure bamboo? what plants will survive in that climate? should I get a ride-on or a scythe? - just to be able to comprehend it at all, it's just too big to hold in my mind all at once.

And as requested, here is my new bathroom - the fifth pic from my previous post is the view from here... best bathroom ever!

to me mind read,

Hey guys, I thought I'd share this

So my amazing family (much love to them the wonderful generous folks that they are :worship: ) have banded together & lent me some cash to help me buy a shack on an (and then I am the fuck outta here.

So as you can see, the shack has three walls & a roof :P , and the property has it's very own little freshwater creek plus some useful plants like bamboo, macadamias & bananas around the house - the rest of the block is dense bush,I'm a nihilist & an atheist, so I don't thank God or fate, but I am very thankful for the meaningless random chances in the universe that threw this my way. And my family, of course - fuck they're awesome.

that's some nifty work on the bathtub right there folks. Forrest ingenuity at it's besty.

"think on your feet mate, damn THINK ON YOUR FEET MATE!"

oh yes ofcourse, logs, bath, the view........and hows the serenity

Good luck mang, you look like you have some awesome ingredients to work with.

More power to you and thanks for sharing the good news. i feel uplifted and inspired reading your post.

does by WBs standards...lol I reckon its a bit like the apple huts they use down Antarctica.

Basic but comfy, risk of cabin fever would be high though...lol

There is one of these or something very similar on the main range of mount Kosciuszko. I had lunch in it once during a snowy shitty weathered day while walking. It could fit eight very close friends in an emergency.

These are the huts in Sydney (built in the 1920's apparently). The internet says Crater Cove. I used to come here all the time as a young kid, we knew them as like north, south and middle head huts. I also remember like old army barracks and places in the hills where they set up cannons for harbor defense, this joint was called "The Tunnels" if I can remember correctly. These places are like heritage sites you can go and visit. Maybe someone from Sydney knows what I'm talking about?

I remember this one immaculate old hut that was half built into the cliff face, the back end of the hut you were inside a cave. and the front end was made out of glass bottles stuck together with mud/clay so it created a clear wall that let light in. Very effective :).

Above pics from google, heres a link for info on the huts: http://pacific-edge.info/2007/08/hidden-path-to-a-coves-history/
