LYCAEUM SHUT DOWN ! ?

Recommended Posts

Guest electro

over the past few days links on lycaeum have been breaking (ie pointing to www///:?/ rather than a real link).

Now clicking on a whats related tab from khat chemistry you now get this warning ....

DEA (logo)

THIS SITE HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN

YOUR IP HAS BEEN LOGGED

http://www.lycaeum.org/warning.shtml

They are trying to maximise harm to gain public support for the government in light of the upcomming war / possible world war...?

Or is this just www vandalism...hackers fucking with us ? anyone know ?

yeah that does seem a bit weird.

surely it's just some stupid joke. or an idea that the DEA think tank racked their brains all night trying to come up with.

i wouldn't be surprised if they used the IPs as sufficient cause to raid homes... after all, if you're visiting the lycaeum, you're buying drugs and if you do that you're supporting terrorists......

Interesting that the hompage works, but any index pages linked from there don't. Looks like the DEA has actually shut it down.

This the reply from the erowid crew.

Looks like it is neither a joke nor a disaster.

================================================

This is a joke they put up on april 1 (april fools day) a while ago.

Its an identical image, so I think its reasonable to assume this is

just their sense of humor.

I would speculate without any information to back it up, that they are

throwing this up in response to CBS News carrying a story on

"internet drug information" which looks like its going to be the

basic negative, prurient-interest, scare the parents story.

Rick D seemed to like the producer OK and some folks we know

got interviewed. Word was the CBS people

werent as bad as some news folks. We will see this afternoon.

Who knows, we don't really hear anything from the lycaeum crew,

This from Gary:

Please do not be alarmed by the DEA notice on The Lycaeum. There is a

reason for it - *huge* apologies for anyone experiencing heart

palpitations over this. An explanation will come later. It *is*

related to the CBS special this evening - we are not having problems

with law enforcement or anyone else.

Gary Bense

Director of the Lycaeum

earth pointed out to me that such redirections are a good way to prevent the server from crashing due to overload. TV specials often cause a flood of people to a site and can often be the demise of that site by crashing the server. Apparently The Hive did the same thing when Strike was being interviewed on air.
