figured i'd take a pic again while the hat's were off during another little reshuffle and maintenance

(viridis likes it on the outer, aya's like it directly under the floodlight but also testing alba there too temporarily)

T. cacao arrrived, 17" with six leaves, popped it in my hot-box, 90 degrees and steamy. Have five boxes full of P. viridis seeds, they're coming up nicely.

Put 20 18" pieces of B. caapi, 2 have roots.

Potted up some Acacia confusa seedlings and some thorny legumes (thanks etheraldrifter xx) with soil from the base of an established A. floribunda.

Root systems looked weaker than with plants germinated in soil from established nitro fixin legumes.

Planted out some Artemisia species and cultivars along with some Heimia, Leonotis & Pepino.

been gifted caapi seeds that have been srpouting nicely. I haven't grown a mature one

I live in zone 9 more or less and I wonder if it would make it here during winter.

its a mild and cool winter

I'd like to ask some of you with more experience, how does it I compare to argyreia nervosa or tyrbina corymbosa, because I have grown them two in my area without much trouble

Also TH, could you present your ethno plants in a proper way without using much nicknames (that is using latin name?)

wow you got a voacanga!

also, sometimes you say and these the Xs but I dont always understand whats happening in you setups. for example which plant is the voacanga...

(I am refering to non cacti)

I suggest making you own thread and explain a bit. Also, what do you plan to do with them? you will grow them, in there?

Cheers

sorry i forgot to post the voacanga alone - but most of the plants are more or less correctly labelled in my gallery (album yukutlan for the rainforest box) , cept some albums where i posted lots and lots and got sick of writing their names...

anyhoo , i notice you having used the word taquimbo since i planted it out there lol :)

must feel nice to roll off the tongue :)

anyhoo too , the voacanga piccies

post-14443-0-22850600-1457487069_thumb.jpost-14443-0-65628100-1457487081_thumb.j

lil update - the new 30w led fried alicia (RIP) is why i downgraded back to the 15watter - if only i could get a 20watter eh?

and... wasn't that good insight my buying more seeds eh?

with 2 seedlings... i reckon i should maybe get more next opportunity .

cleared the germinatia rack ... the last bonsai in my collection to die from having to move from an acre garden to a tiny appartment.. just died ..

so i stuck it on a shelf because I don't know if ulmus parvifolia wood is toxic or not to aquaria - unlike the erhetia microphylla (fukien tea) I put in the aquarium the other month ; as my "virola" in the aquascape ..

(done that in the past successfully with fukien tea in the aquarium so did it again with the last one my mom killed off , so as to keep it "alive" in some way)

post-14443-0-78941500-1457487933_thumb.j

put the cactlet trays from that germinatia rack closer to the window ...seeing as there's more sun around this month...

post-14443-0-58097400-1457487953_thumb.jpost-14443-0-78556700-1457488513_thumb.j

added a humidity dome back to the seedling alicias in the "caapitarium" (new nickname thanks to an awesome sts dude)

and rearranged all the sprouts to the right side now they have labels closer to the window-light

post-14443-0-07413600-1457488852_thumb.j

took some lophers out of the ixtlahuatl and puttem in the tricho shrine..

to make room for the 19-20 cactlet pots that didnt strangely die-off ...

post-14443-0-25975300-1457521509_thumb.jpost-14443-0-82048700-1457488918_thumb.j

in the RFB (yukutlan) I have air layered all the surviving aya's and replaced their soil with some freshly mixed power soil of my own recipe blending... (not ADA powersoil)

post-14443-0-61768700-1457488984_thumb.jpost-14443-0-07273400-1457488994_thumb.jpost-14443-0-38925400-1457489003_thumb.jpost-14443-0-25190500-1457489014_thumb.j

- added a few more sandwich filler tub humidity domes to the potential "virolarium"

post-14443-0-22774100-1457489195_thumb.jpost-14443-0-58016600-1457489203_thumb.j

oh yeah , the aim of the game is to propagate and disperse - i gather that's what the plants are after..

and i owe em big time .. nice they're so patient with me tho..

maybe i will be rewarded with some nice unlikely successes for me and my 3 saplings too.. like with the tricho shrine..

it was more likely back at the family house i gr4ew up at ... all that acre garden , greenhouses, conservatory.. but hey; can't help being born to spiteful baby boomers that wanna throw away the last 3 generations of family planning ahead away now just because their least fave child ended up being the only one who had kids (that they couldn't successfully steal after they decided to go on a rampage cuz some horse plucked up the balls to tell them about their feminazi self) .. can we?

and i'll just do what I can till i can get a greenhouse or somewhere to do my work a lil better..

- at least i get to tinker with some next NASA type shit ... is v hard to replace the sun..

umm yeah , just replaced the soil of the 2 viridis juveniles in the RFB too :3

neatened up a bit , looks a bit better now ..

post-14443-0-75276900-1457500319_thumb.jpost-14443-0-55922900-1457500323_thumb.jpost-14443-0-95803700-1457500329_thumb.jpost-14443-0-54313400-1457500333_thumb.j

there are 3 pots in the RFB under humidity domes ready for a possible virola nutz score - probably 2 nuts per pot.. - (still not yet dispatched but hoping any day now)

- which is why it's so annoying not having virola seeds that should've arrived by now because i have viridis cuttings itching to go in those pots... -

(+ 6 mosspots in the aeropod[1 nut per pot], 24 pots in the olde toad/virolarium[1 nut per pot], 3 pots in the caapitarium[2 nuts per pot] and 3 remaining nuts in the aquarium on the island with protection from El Pleco and his molusc pals..)

p.s. you already asked my intentions in one of your former "lives" ... i can only think you forgot and are forgetful like i can be...

either way ^^ there ya go mate :)

any post arrived your end yet?

got some more "moss pots" from the nice new postie :3

the only others i had were the ones that aquarium plants came in with rock wool..

these new ones are a bit nicer in that they raise the "leafdrop" away from the hole board giving some air room 'tween leaf and wet hole board that holds all the foam collars/moss pots in place..

but feel cheaper and flimsier...

Dissection of a Brugmansia sanguinea fruit.

20th December 2015

Returning to the garden after being away I find one of the Brugmansia sanguineas has a fruit.

These are the most common Brugmansia species around these parts, I assume because of their cold hardiness compared to other brugs.

They are more often than not flowering abundantly but I had never seen fruit before.

I had tried cross pollination before many times with no success.

Awesome eth! Did I give/trade u that? It's looking nice. Mine are still in pots too, how do people think they would go in the ground in Sydney? We don't get frosts but do get hectic winds that nothing can be protected from..

Hey Thunder, forgive me if you have explained this in a previous post. But what are you doing with the moss pots?

Are they for cuttings needing to root, or are they for already rooted cuttings? They look awesome btw, is it sphagnum moss or something else completely?

theres quite a few mosses , but i wish i could give them all a name

one is frog moss - used in dart frog terrariums

all i know to call the others is sphagnum lol

but there are definitely many species I somehow fluked

the cuttings for viridis in the aeropod root often within 2 weeks and sprout fast too - faster than any method i ever heard of

the only way i was able to make them slightly faster was with live moss which seems to love the aeropod/magick waterfall just as much :)

then the idea of germinating virola seeds in moss.. lead me to consider the aeropod for it ,

and for that matter , other recalcitrant seed ..

maybe theobroma cacao for example but not sure or learned enough to have gotten that far

hadnt worked for any erythroxylum species though ..
