☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted October 22, 2015 : 3 they're not just mine, the kids wanted cactus particularly ... -when reunited with the eldest 2 a few years ago we were getting to re-know eachother and I told them I could grow anything - knowing the GH's hit 60C , and the sun room not far behind... and filled with all the confidence after my court win for their residency that I really could do anything if I really wanted to.. .. and thus ; so could they [figuring easy way to teach em the process from initial idea leading to research, planning, patience hunting, care, consistency, provisions, consequences of fails and how to re-approach or when not to etc..and so many other things] ...and they and my youngest started suggesting tea coffee chocolate vanilla and really big and really little cactus ... at the time we had a sun room at our disposal and a seemingly willing granny .. ...but I tried to back out of it because of the "nasty spines" and little fingers 'safety panic' .. but they were having none of it and I had to tell myself to get over it and realise I'd dropped myself in it and had to come up with the goods and try not to get too sliced up along the way.. , and that there was the possibility of frogs in a rainforestery box if I could attain the neccessary nature/harmony needed along the way for myself.. so I just thanked my lucky stars that they didnt think of citrus fruits -plus they learned to use the cacti as measures of long passing time and events ... -and are much more in tune to the seasons thanks to them, and of course wild mushroom foraying all year round too : 3 anyhoo erm defo fell in love with every single plant along the way fo sho thrs nuthn quite like happy magickal plants integrated into a happy family home ... with a kitty n kitty fishies... except maybe being that family in a wild tribe out there where they come from?..

I just went from 4x 15w led bars =60w , to 1x15w floodlight =15w in the RFB
BedOSpines Posted October 25, 2015 Downgraded lights?
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted October 26, 2015 umm , updowngraded lol aye -less electricity (1/4 of previous amount used) but more output less plug sockets (just 1 now instead of 4) and more heat too just a little bit of head room lost since the tubes are about an inch "depth" , and the floodlight hangs about 4-5" deeper than the lid and no way of piggy backing any grafx card fans to their power supply via cctv 4 way splitting cables without dying -which is ok because the fans were detrimental to the majority of RFB plantages as it turned out..
BedOSpines Posted October 26, 2015 Whatever does the job . My qualm with floodlights is I blow bulbs every other week lol, they've since been banished from my life unless it's flooding. I got myself a light meter and have been doing many tests, the leds take the cake everytime. Though its probly much colder where you are. I need get rid of the heat. I need to have a go at growing psychotria some time.
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) oh these ones are LED floodlights ... never had the bulb floodlights ones before , I wouldn't like to imagine how much mercury vapor or nasties in the bulb i must have inhaled accidentally treading on so many cfl bulbs over the last 12yrs [and t8/t5's on aquaria] that's one thing I can definitely do without.. ... and the heat given off isn't that much although it is the uk and winter is fast approaching... as it goes, with the amount of room in there, it compliments the heated base nicely .. and due to the hang depth from the lid, it won't cause any heat damage to the lid.. with an extra layer or 2... and a higher powered floodlight ... i may just find the goldilocks zone -edit- perhaps moving it away from the window will help it maintain nice lovely heat of delicious tropics Edited November 12, 2015 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ

BedOSpines Posted October 28, 2015 The illusive goldilocks zone haha. I just. Assumed they where the old hot as shit halogens or smthing. The led ones are the go I need to get a tank like yours, haven't turned my tv on in months I think a tank would get more attention. Plus I'm terrified the king parrots will come eat my babies.
etherealdrifter Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) the back ones that are taller are from Diggers - corn painted mountain, the ones at the front are the blue hopi corn from hillbilly. i found a small, dehydrated, part green part good looking corn cob from two years ago. I stripped the kernals and planted them and as you can see, each little nugget popped up. kudos, hb. I envisage i can't just eat the cob off the plant like a sweet corn etc but we are looking forward to grinding the kernals to make flour for blue tortillas. edit: the red little pot inbetween is sri lankan curry tree seedling form negative dave Edited October 28, 2015 by etherealdrifter
coolname Posted October 28, 2015 Eth the painted mountain corn kernals are nice toasted or fried in a bit of oil with whatever seasoning you like. They go from being rock hard to nice and crunchy. I dunno about the blue hopi corn though. You should give it a try when they are ready

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) wish i could tell you but wow what a beauty and if it didn't work, at least ya tried.. I probably would've done too brugs seem to come in seasons in uk i found ... often midspring I see a sudden influx of cuttings , evolving into small plant availability by summer.. and i found dec/jan best for sowing times just like with tomatoes .. dyu know anyone from round there who might be able to grab you an pod or 2 off it when they're ripe? p.s. spidermites will thrash them if if given the opportunity indoors.. least affected in my experience was brug suaveolans yellow from wss most affected IME were any hybrids involving the colour pink.. outside though they love it , and they're over winterable at any size handleable if cut back hard uptop (non main trunk branches) and below (roots) Edited November 13, 2015 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
etherealdrifter Posted November 13, 2015 good day today...finally...no back pain the wind blew this glass door out and the snail for eat food fur for fur furry[ i stupidly put this baby out in the sun last summer but it has come back with style and a distinct character to it's own unique lopho persona attachment=68151:spring 051.jpg] sizzle baby sizzle these are number 8's from Nitrogen crosses in 2012. I plated them the same time i sent some to MO for a "let's plant some older fridged seeds from N at the same time" kind of sceneario. As you can see, the socket sees a sideways mutation in the one of the three seedlings. 2012 seeds from N sown in 2015 still very viable. thanks mang.
