Who needs pigs to dispose of bodies when you can just feed them to your cactus instead?

Fertilised my v. africana & p. viridis (with stowaway self-sown cherry tomato)! Relieved they seem to be flourishing finally after nearly losing the v. africana earlier on:

post-9438-0-70747600-1393035954_thumb.jp

Also fertilised my custard apple seedling which is going great guns:

I don't know what the pretty blue flower is next to it, just self-sown.

And most importantly, repotted a couple of lophs into terra cotta after being in plastic pots for a while. As you can see from the second one, the water from the soil is seeping into the terra cotta so they can dry out a bit. My lophs seem to have grown heaps this season.

Unfortunately lost a few plants recently as well (khat, caapis).

Thinking about starting a frog pond.

I saw a giant golden-coloured furry bee in my garden which looked like one of these: http://www.aussiebee.com.au/xylocopa.html

It buzzed really loud and I'm pretty sure it was a male golden carpenter bee. Another image which looks like him:

Also rapt to see 4 new flower buds on my cereus cactus! Hopefully will get some fruit off it this time.

Today, as I do most days, I rotated the pots of my indoor Catha edulis seedlings, lightly watered them, sprayed the gnats and raised the thin blind because today is overcast

(I use the thin blind like shade cloth. So if it's a super sunny day, the blind goes down for at least part of the day)

Received a package from a friend in Brazil today that has been in the post for about 4 weeks.

Around 10 leaves of psychotria viridis total. Seems that about 6 decided to start throwing roots in transit. 3 different phenotypes from Santo Daime churches in the amazon rainforest ;)

i further planned out the rehaul on my 50x50cm rainforest box that I call Yukutlan ..

to shrink my 4 pots of salvia down to one big one, figured the psy alba was just too big for an 11cm pot so a big one for them too also prepared for the incoming viridis plant by planning it a big pot with the leaf cuttings that havent shooted yet and a big pot for the theobroma cacao

btw these "big" pots are 13x13x13cm and havent arrived yet

also the remaining twelve 11cm pot-slot would be vacancies in the rainforest box are planned to be filled by plants pretty much already in 11cm pots, just in a different order..

as follows:

1 for 3 calea

1 for 1 coffea - may have to move out to another humid box ...I'll have to come up with another apt name

the room might be needed to home an extra unexpected muricata

1 for germinating virola

1 for psy nervosa

2 for tunkunaka

4 for alicia aniso'

1 for 2 muricata

1 for voacanga

which left a 2" gap and i have some lovely 2" cactus pots so theres room for 6 which i might try germinating psychotrias in..

but so far

1 for hylocereus costaricensis

and there will be room to balance my ehretia bonsai on the pot rims like currently

I also sprayed them with sbs and added another litre of fresh rain to the bottom tray

gallery_14443_753_658432.jpg

The little seedling in the middle at the bottom of the above picis banisteriopsis muricata, a second one sprouted the day after posting this so i figure id add it along with the others nu pics

DSC00027.JPG

the ophthalmocentra seedlings began making their second true leaves

gallery_14443_753_292379.jpg

and my home grown purple datura metel seeds all popped up - all 4 that i sowed - the rings are where med caps were as mini domes

gallery_14443_753_353102.jpg

the peganum outside started to sprout and i sowed some argemone mexicana there

and also i aired out the cacti . especially the arrid ones and the plants I'm boosting with night lights in my home built propogator that I call

Ixtlahuatl ..but i usually put that "journal" in the what i did to my cactus thread

DSC00025.JPG

DSC00029Copy.JPG

and a skeeter cam shot^^

watered the turnera diffusa

its from www.greenhousesensation.co.uk , uk made , i thnk its made from the same plastic they make airplane windsheild with.

and its awesome that a uk manufacturer can actually do a good job instead of kiss its ass goodbye to a cheaper workforce country or become obsolete like bef pots for example, appear to have lol

Also I added 2 mini aquarium led light strips that attach with suction cups ,

they come on from 1 am till sunrise to boost light hours and cuz 1 am till 8 am signifys cheaper electricity time

-edit-

incidentally , somewhere i wrote that they're 3 watts each led strip but i found out they're only 1.8watts which is even more economical lol

just tryna hunt the post now to correct it

shit I got just a little beer more.

it was a happy occasion today as always for a saggitarius.

the main reason?

chilli pepper sowing, which I thought had no hope, various strains, so I thought they had "expired" , sprouted as soon as I put in the green house

first astrophytum myriostigma flower, ornatums had flowered couple days earlier. mammilarias and lophos keep flowering

so

today I watered, I took some shots of stenocacti forming fruit, and checked the over all thing..

Watered assorted cacti, catnip, salvia, coffee, HBWR and noted that the s.rue I had finally managed to germinate had died.

enjoyed the aroma of double ruffled purple daturas and checked the progress of their seed pods.

picked more N.Tobacum leaves and turned the ones curing in my study.

Picked some more leaves off my mother salvia and brought them in to dry

Noted that my Hemia, Calea and my Kanna are all flowering - i'll see if they set any seed.

Licorice, horehound, wolfsbane, lobelia and assorted others are ready to pot up.

We had RAIN and it was GLORIOUS! Finally finally finally. i might even plant out some of my little herbs if it happens again . . .

got some green coffee beans (Sumatran) to try to germinate, need to pick some of the bagged seed heads of named varieties of N. Tobacum i got from the states.
