you don't want the tradescantia, in your pot's or around your plantings, so rip it.

but in the garden, it doesn't matter much, btw the trade, in tradescantia is realy a remark for this weeds craftyness.

when you spot it in the garden or in the wild, it will indicate a moist, well nurtured location, in other words, a good spot to plant out semi shade loving plants...

a good indicator plant!

sally we all are right, i think, it's a case of synonymous latin plant names.

http://www.toowoomba...jew-december-09

but probably i'm wrong here, and it's a case of look alikes.

Good work lads, I also thought it was wandering dew, didn't realise there was a native copy-cat. In any case, my folks have this blue-flowered "wandering dew" and it's spread everywhere, so dig the bastard out while you still can.

From the wiki entry SallyD linked to:

Commelina cyanea .... is a trailing herbaceous perennial plant, whose stems grow along the ground.[1] It readily roots at the nodes when they come into contact with the soil. They die off in winter.[5] .... The flowers can occur at any time from spring to autumn.[1] They are deep blue and about 1.5 cm (0.6 in) in diameter ..... does resemble the introduced weed wandering Jew (Tradescantia fluminensis), but the latter has white flowers and a segmented stem, a weak root system. It also lacks the hairy leaf sheathes of C. cyanea.[11] However, C. cyanea can itself be weedy in gardens at times.[12]
