George Simian Posted October 28, 2012 bought this on the weekend at the cssa spring thing, the lady who sold it to me had less of an idea about what it was than i did. any ideas?
0 poisonshroom Posted October 28, 2012 (edited) Maybe its some kind of hybrid? Looks strange, but definitely resembles lophophora in a weird way, could even be the progeny of a hybrid that looked completely like a loph (ie the person who grew it didnt realize it was a hybrid, then it produced seed and thats what came out) How big is it? 0 dionysus Posted October 29, 2012 i was going to suggest perhaps a matucana sp (or submatucana). before but was not (and still not) convinced, however i keep coming back there. perhaps a funky hybrid or semi monstrose variety. looks like an awesome and old specimen anyway, cool plant

0 George Simian Posted November 13, 2012 This thing is a filthy cock tease, these buds have been swollen for like 3 days now! Grrrrrrr
0 George Simian Posted November 15, 2012 Yahoooo! The other photos are too big, I'll try and put them up somewhere I pollinated with a little brush, have no idea if it will work though. the flowers seem very rigid, kinda like plastic!
0 qualia Posted November 15, 2012 This plant has a highly specialized pollination biology, that depends upon flies which are deceived, partially trapped and used as collectors of the pollinia which they transport to a cyathium (Flower) on another plant. wtf? do the flowers smell?
0 George Simian Posted November 15, 2012 Hmmm well they must have pretty retarded flys in Africa because these things would not be easy to get trapped in. They do smell, funnily enough, like man juice. Actually that makes me very worried about the flys....
