Columnar Flower Buds. Got some ? Post them here.

Recommended Posts

seems like alot of work to find out if its possible

not that I have any trich flowers yet

I tried to get one to self pollinate last year with cement and well
I got bored with that pretty fast

but if someone close enough wants to try i'd be happy to ship some pollen

I just know nothing about how to do that or if it can remain viable long enough

I'm curious if it is in the ground or in a pot?..just saw it in id section..so it is in a pot & flowering.

I have an 1200mm Espostoa, but read they don't flower in pots....

pc pachanoi fuzzballs.......pc pachanoi will grow out these fuzzballs 1-2 yrs in advance, which may or may not develop into full blown flowers in that same time frame. Fuzzballs occur mostly on the tips of mature stems, although they will form on newer, younger columns as well.

hey interbeing do you have any pollen for that?

How tall is the plant? I'm guessing it was cut from a mature plant?

Didn't grab any from that one but I have a couple more coming on, pm me if you want some.

The cutting was about 90cm when I got it a few months ago, didn't see a pic of the parent.

thanks for the offer ..but I'd be surprised if any of my pilos flower this season...I have 2 about a m high but seed grown and my pilos Az. is only 150mm high............just wonder if they would fruit, with their own pollen or hybridise with another......

I wonder if Mutants would have x with yours..

I'm of the opinion P azureus is self fertile.....I've only one and it threw out a couple of flowers for me, both resulted in fruits with no assistance from me.. Mature stem 3 meters tall or so.

It's about 3m/10ft. Been in the ground 6 years, it

was just .6 or .9m (2-3ft) when I planted it.

It was pollinated with another terscheckii, PC pachanoi, a peruvianus (from eBay Jessica, Spine Collector), the Berkeley botanical garden peruvianus in my profile pic, and a nice grandiflorus.

awesomeness those will be some great crosses that BBG looks gorgeous

I think i know what you mean @ Jessicas peruvianus, I remember the really long one you got I think

I grabbed a couple shorter ones and then screwed up on one. saved it with a graft... just starting

to see growth on them too.. the big one turned yellow, then greened up, then yellow again, I ferted, and now

its started to green again and showing the hints that its starting to grow.. im pretty sure the super

duper well balanced compost I bought last year was infertile due to sitting long with too many sticks

Those will make for some interesting hybrids............if the grandiflorus takes ...you could get a giant coloured form...

Noticed this, would be the first flower buds ive seen. This cactus was id`d as T. shickendantzi or something. How long until it opens roughly? Would love to have a go at pollinating if anyone has spare pollen. Nice plant, i havent heard of many crosses with it

My T Pasacana has some flower buds starting to develop. I will definitely be collecting as much pollen as possible from these as well as trying to fertilise these and get seeds. I suppose I have about 2 months to wait. I'm kind of surprised at how early they are showing this year.

And yeah, it's not a columnar but it's the first time this melocatus has flowered. It popped about 3 days ago. :)
