Jox Posted January 3, 2013 No worries Mr Bowser, happy to keep updating. It now only has one nut as I have made a graft with the other . I will update in a month or two if the graft takes. Fingers crossed.
Jox Posted April 19, 2013 Well its been three & a bit months now & I can happily say that the graft was a success . I can certainly tell you all that what ever weird genetic traits the original cactus had is showing up even more with the graft. Here are a series of photos from the last few months, I would love to hear peoples opinions about what going on. 3/2/13 (1 month & since graft) Has taken & starting to grow 4/3/13 (2 months & 1 day since graft) growing well, looks healthy, starting to think it going to grow normally. 5/4/13 (3 months & 2 days since graft) Just starting to notice those weird traits Today 19/4/13 (3months 16 days since graft) Its starting to really pump out some weird growth This is pretty cool watching this change & I would imagine its only going to get better with time. I was hoping it was going to keep growing weird maybe monstrose as soon as I grafted it & after a few months I was thinking it had reverted to its normal grow but now things are looking very different. Thanks for looking, I look forward to hearing peoples thoughts . Cheers jox
Bert&Ernie Posted April 19, 2013 What the actual fuck xD that looks nuts It seems like it is jut shooting out weird pups but is otherwise growing fine.... very interesting indeed
Kykeion Posted April 19, 2013 Wow! I can't wait another three months to see what happens by then! It looks like only the areoles are monstrose-ish while the rest of the cactus is normal. Hard to tell if they wanna pup, or are doing some sort of semi-crested freakishness.

What you said is basically what I think is going on, Although I am no expert but what said seems to sum it up perfectly. I am pretty sure the areole's are not pupping, just growing very deformed/ monstrose. It would be cool if they all joined up but the main column seems normally . Has anyone one here had cacti do this kind of thing? I would love to see photos or here about other cacti doing this. Cheers jox
Savage Gardener Posted April 25, 2013 Nice one Jox. Great pics there at the last update!
Jox Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) Well I fell short from posting updates every month, sorry but I have been busy with lots of projects (many cacti ). The graft has been growing very well but for the last couple of months it stopped throwing out the weird monstrose growth & looked like it was going to continue normal. I was happily surprised when re-potting it yesterday I noticed that is starting to put out more weird growth at the top. Surly someone else out there has a cactus doing something like this? If so please tell me lol. Here are some new photos taken yesterday 6/9/13. In these photos you can see how it stopped throwing out the weird growth for a while Some closer photos of the weird growth The most exciting photos , starting to throw weird growth from near the top! Can't wait to hear your thoughts & comments on these new photos. Cheers Jox Edited September 7, 2013 by Jox

Jox Posted September 7, 2013 @ Thedood, thanks mate I try to as much info into my posts so readers have a better idea of what I'm trying to say & I have learnt a lot for other members who put up informative posts. There is to may of ya's to name but you know who you's are . @ Andy & goodude. goodude, I don't know if you read through the hole post but the photos of the grafted cactus in post #33 has grown from a areole taken for the cactus in first post. Andy I have been thinking about taking all the weird areole's off & grafting them to try & make 10/15 of these freaks, if I do I will keep one for you but for the next month I will be putting my time into grafting nitrogen's crosses which I got to sow this week finally. @ Mushroomman, the second photo you posted has growth that looks similar but my plant has not come from nitrogen's seed & as it was never mentioned that the parents had any weird traits. Your seedlings look great, I can't wait for my to get to grafting size. Cheers Jox
