Wow! Awesome hookah head. Pup #3 looks like a TBMC. That's awesome. Will be stoked to see these in a few years and it's getting me excited about mine!

Does anyone have some tentative figures on monstrose/crested rates of crosses with the monstrose/crest as the pollen donor(father)?

TPQC x TPM var. "Broccoli" Decided to make a name for this. It has a ton of crested growth points and it's starting to look like a head of broccoli.

Hostilis - those TPQC x TPM are really interesting - the batch I've got growing are def showing a certain sort of look that is different from the other TPM crosses..

EthnoGuy85 - that's a good question - in mine I wanna say it's like 30% or so, versus the 60% or so from the freak-as-mother crosses..

Nemisty, have no fear, I've got a some little trays of seedlings on their own roots - will post some pics in a bit if I can get around to it.. Grafting is so fun though - instant gratification rocks!

I have 4 of them grafted and like 150 on their own roots. I don't understand why some people bash on grafting so much.Instant gratification is awesome. Lol/

Grafting allows preservation of genetics in your collection if disaster strikes. It's easy to have an entire crop of seedlings wiped out, but if you have one or two representatives grafted, hopefully you will have something to show for your efforts afterwards. It takes a long time to become proficient at growing cacti from seed, especially the small, slow-growing species. And even those really good at it have bad years occasionally.

here's a couple on their own roots. The smallest one is actually my TPQC x TPM "L1". When I cut it for grafting, I didn't remove it from the pot and I made sure to leave a few areoles. So what your seeing is the pup that grew back :)

I can remove this guy and let him grow its own now right? I think it will grow incredibly fast, considering the root is almost as big as the pup. :P

Here's some of my propagation efforts. These are all either pups or pups of pups. I didn't grab pictures of the mothers tonight, but post #375 of this thread is the most recent update of them.

Of course any good story needs a dramatic and unexpected plot twist at the end. So here is mine... my second favorite plants out of my entire nitrogen collection ironically isn't a mutant :). It was the very first seed I grafted, and certainly looked weird as hell in the beginning. However once it straightened itself out, it turned into a beautiful dark green machine. This is by far the fastest growing cactus in my entire collection. I have grafted several pups from it now, and the fast growth is quite noticeable in all of them.

:worship::worship::worship::worship::worship: THANK YOU NITROGEN FOR ALL OF THESE GIFTS :worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:
Edit: By the way I apologize for taking up 1/2 a page between these two posts. Does anyone know if it's possible to get the pictures to line up beside each other when you use "my media" to include them in the post? I prefer it that way, but it's a pain in the ass to find the url for each pic and then use the "insert image", plus it doesn't thumbnail them either :(

That is one sexy cactus hookah head. I should graft one of my seedlings from that variation for sure.

It was repotting time today for the TPQC x TPM and TPM x SS02 seedlings. Here's some photos. I've been neglecting them a bit so they're kinda small, but I'm starting to see some freaks for sure. One of them is even cresting.

I'm glad I pulled this pot out today for the pic. I hadn't realize she looked dehydrated. I think the stock must be giving out, I'll have to figure something out this weekend.

Wow, amazing little specimens!

I have had good success by simply planting mine while still grafted to the pereskiopsis - depending on how high up the pereskiopsis they are, either bury the whole thing until the base of the tricho is covered, or cut the pereskiopsis 2-4" down and bury that with the base of the tricho.. I suppose at some point the pereskiopsis might die and rot, and I'm not sure if this will transfer to the tricho, but so far mine are doing great that way, and I have heard that others have done it too with success..
