Cascade Pale Ale is not a bad drop, but the lovers of hoppy tastes cant stand it.

Generally it solid home brew stouts for me.

I always wanted to try Tactical Nuclear Penguin by Brewdog from Scotland. They used "ice distillation" on a stout, to produce a 32% stout. The record has been broken since for higher % alcohol since.

I always wanted to try the process, but if you want a laugh watch this and it outlines how they did this feat:

Monteiths brew a FINE beer! Good at their stouts and darker malts.

But homebrew is the shit! Hands down.

Sparkling ale will get you munted! Fuck that beer hits. Coopers pale is my sturdy workhorse.

There is a pub in Canberra which microbrews their own. Their velvet cream stout is to die for.

Right now im drinking a 2011 reserve pale ale, by Endeavour. It is a solid, good drinking well hopped beer.

It's a 7/10 for me.

I see no one has bothered to mention Belgium beers. Do yourself a favour and try as many as you can because the Belgiums treat beer like the french treat wine. my reccomendations - tripple karmalite, Duval, Duece really the choice is endless from beautiful chocolate ales to real fruit beers. mmmmmmm cant beat the belgiums

The Belgian cheery beers (Kriek) are gross. I cant belive they waiste there talents on such things. For any true beer lover, you must visit belgium once and try every beer you come accross. I tried one from a local political party (labourish i think) wich was a 9/10 ...

didn't they move brewery's and lost the natural spring or something? i remember there was a special release sparkling ale in longnecks when the old brewery closed down, about 2k or so. holy shit it was good, many months were spent wondering what the fuck just happened when that was released.

I know something changed at there end and with the product. I think they moved on to a "more commerical setup" I.E beer made in a factory instead of a brewery ...

Coopers Pale ale 8/10

Coopers Sparkling ale 9/10

Coopers Vintage ale 9/10

the finest beer brewer in Australia.

Coopers tastes fine (although def. not a 9/10), but they do heavily support the libs http://www.crikey.co...election-dough/ (sorry about source). I don't drink theirs anymore, and since that I realised that the best thing about Coopers is that you can drink a lot of it, and let's face it, after 3-4 schooners you're probably not drinking for the taste anymore anyway.

Little Creatures is excellent for a couple. VB is fine if you're drinking all night. Homebrew is the most satisfying.

edit to add a couple more. Cascade do some fine brews, Blue Tongue have some decent ales, as does James Squire. Matilda Bay's Bees Nees is a great summer beer, their Redback is a passable wheat beer (maybe wheat beers just aren't my faves). White Rabbit's dark ale is a fair dark. Outback beers were nothing to rave about.

Fancy beers are fine, but I still stand by the worker's water!

VB is fine? I'd rather Injectbmy eyeballs with someone else's shit than drink that watered down chemical.

Whatever floats ya boat incog. Fecal eye injections arent really the done thing at bbqs round these parts though.

I doubt lil creatures will taste as good as many think it does for long, has been sold to one of the big companies. I was drinkn it for a bit but got sick of it. Homebrew a lil now but can never go past a box of steinlager pure, failing that ill go peroni failing that ill go stella failing that ill go Heineken failing that ill take whatever it is you have in your fridge. I cant get my taste buds to agree with cider, nor my sense of smell, its has the flavour and nose of bottled vomit. Been getn back on the shiraz or merlot more often lately tbh.

anyone tried any Wychwood brewery stuff? can't decide if they're actually good or if it's just fantasy-capitalising tackiness. in either case they have a beer called hobgoblin so they're alright in my book **

i also want to try making henbane pilsener, anyone tried that? or anything with lotus/lily or mandrake even. anyone read that book on 'healing beers' or whatever it's called?

as for belgians, i like Leffe. Oh and anyone remember Platinum Blondes? dunno if they still make those, but they used to come in an 8pack and be like 9%. now THAT's an efficient beer. :puke:

EDIT: **turns out wychwood aren't nearly as good as i remember, and i think the fantasy element is what's worth attending to here. just bought HALF a slab of hobgoblin and scarecrow, cost me near a hundred bucks. they are 500s though so it isn't a complete kick in the head.

but yeah the beer just aint that good. especially scarecrow. yuck. stick to little creatures if you like overhopped muck with a supernatural being on the front. hobgoblin is alright, still too bitter in my book. but i stand by ye olde fraoch. 4000 years, aged to perfection.

I just finished an Alaskin Ice Beer HB, done by an Aussie company I can't think of the name though. Very nice flavors, full bodied and a thick creamy head that lasted 2/3 of the beer. Another 2-4 weeks and it'll be prime I reckon (always save a 6 pack of each beer to taste after 12mths though)

Coopers Pale is probably my standard...although James Squire's 150 Lashes has had me lately. New standard perhaps.

I like White Rabbit's Dark Ale now and then...used to live a couple blocks from the Little Creatures brewery in Freo too. I know it's 3:30am on a Wednesday night...but god damn I feel like a cold tasty beer now...fuck it, it's beer time!

Beer is amazing.

VB is OK. BEST SERVED ICE COLD tho as per instructions on the box.

I enjoy a nice boags premium or a fosters long neck every now and then.. Tried 'Arvo' by cassella's the other day, the split 6 pack with two diff lager brews was very enjoyable. Been drinking some $30 case of German tins called 'Breda' this week which is cheap and nasty, but it tastes alright, probably the best $30 case of imported tins I've tried (again, the colder the better). Was drinking 'coronitas' a couple of weeks ago, little baby coronas, one minute it's full, the next minute it's empty & you soon begin to realise that you're getting pissed. Those Japanese imported Sapporo cans aren't bad either, it's a good shape and size (650ml) for a relaxing afternoon bevvy. So many beers, so much variety. It's good stuff, but it's not without its dark side that's for sure.

The thing to remember is that an ice cold, refreshing beer on a hot day goes down so well. It really satisfies in a way that few things can. Best enjoyed with friends.

Long live the amber fluid.

A decent cheap one I've always been partial to is Hollandia. It's just that since I don't drink that much anymore these days I'm more about quality than quantity, so I tend to drink more expensive beers. It's still pretty good though.
