Looking for nice wood to carve (NZ only)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was just wondering if any NZ members have any excess nice wood loitering at their properties or workplaces.

I am looking for any nz natives, esp totora, kauri, rimu, or manuka,

any fruit trees,

english yew, ebony or anything else that looks nice or particularly interesting.

I don't need huge amounts either, small pieces would be great and i'll happily pay for postage.

My partner and I have started giving carving a go, and he is taking to it like a fish to water, so we need some more materials.

If anyone can help plz send me a pm.

Cheers!

Only just today i was at a demolition yard looking for some nice wood. The only thing that i liked was some Tassie oak.

You should check out some carving/woodworking forums, and i am sure you will find a source for some nice material there.

Looking forward to seeing your finished carvings bogfrog.

:)

I found this place as it's the second time ever I've seen pukatea wood for sale. Maybe they would send you a "sample" if you want to check the quality before buying more. :D

Garage sales and op shops.. Old and often native timber that just needs a sand.

If you have the time and somewhere to store the wood I'm sure there is plenty fallen limbs out there.

Why don't you hit my pa up?

He has the wood, tools and knowledge plus would be more than keen to show you some stuff.

You can have some wormwood pieces if you want, they aren't that thick but pipes, flutes, rings etc are all a possibility.
