lhb2444 Posted July 8, 2012 Picked up 2 nice finds this morning at the addison road markets in marrickville. I think the first one is most likely a Notocatcus magnificus however the second I have no idea about. This is the first Gymnocalycium I've owned and I haven't been able to find anything to similar looking online so let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
0 tonic Posted July 8, 2012 Looks like Parodia magnifica and Gymnocalycium mihanovichii or could be var. fredreichii.

0 tonic Posted July 9, 2012 No worries. Parodia is synonymous with Notocactus by the way.
0 prier Posted July 13, 2012 the standard mihanovichii is kinda boring and short lived, the multi colored cultivars are much more entertaining. the parodia mag, is great, those things grow into some show specimen beasts
0 lhb2444 Posted July 14, 2012 I actually really like the colour of this gymno, I had never really been to interested in them before (although I had never really seen many up close) but I do love the deep earthy colours in this cacti so it's definitely sparked some new found interest in gymno's.

Snowfella I'm really looking forward to watching my plants come to life this spring and summer and I'm hoping I might start getting some flowers around the garden!
