Wow. Beautiful. What are they?

Question

What could these be and are they active? They look mighty similar to subs. I should add they are slimy on the top.

Not subs, not active. Looks like Cortinarius sp.

Without a doubt. But keep looking; they're a good indicator that subs may be about.

Good call!

On second look, I would agree. The conical pileus threw me a bit as the ones I see a lot of the time are more convex to plane and the gills are usually a bit darker. These have probably dropped their spores and lightened the gills.
