ID Anyone?

Question

post-11507-0-41692100-1338793136_thumb.jpost-11507-0-94018300-1338793153_thumb.jpost-11507-0-16538700-1338793170_thumb.j

Can anyone help me identify this? when I picked it, it had a white veil covering the entirety of the gills.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Looks like Agaricus sp. possibly Agaricus augustus.

There is no ring on the stipe, so I don't believe it to to be Agaricus augustus

Also out of season in Australia

Good point. Might be Cortinarius sp.

What do you think it is?

Haha I have no clue, I was on a walk with my grandma and she commented that it looked like an edible. So I thought even if not, it'd be interesting to see what it is

Although after randomly googling Agaricus and Cortinarius I think that it's probably an Agaricus sp over Cortinarius

Also I read that Cortinarius have veils on young specimens that usually completely disappear, I think that the mushroom I found was mature. I'm not certain about this but i suspect it

Hmmm, well I am still learning. So, I will say I don't know what it is :innocent_n:

I still reckon it has some traits similar to Agaricus sp., but the fact that the annulus is absent is a very good point. Also the fact that it had such a persistent veil should be a good ID feature, but has me stumped at this point. Hopefully someone who is more knowledgeable will chime in and make a better ID than my attempt. I am pretty interested to find out what it is now.

Me too, I started a spore print about 45 minutes ago so hopefully that will narrow it down a bit!

It may be, it for sure wasn't growing on wood. Although, the wood could have been decomposed! Infact, I think this is very likely as it was growing about 10 inches away from a patch of Psilocybe Subaeruginosa.

i think gymnopilus can be ruled out, all the gyms i've seen have adnexed lamella, that one is entirely detached from the stipe.
