Zaka Posted May 26, 2012 Irie, So I've grown this vine for the pass 2 years. Grown from seeds, from Peru, that were labled "White Caapi".. I'm pretty much sure it's Stigmaphyllon sp. My question is what is it used for??? I've seen it in the back ground of a few shots of Peruvian shamans gardens, but no info! But it's now taking over & is choking a couple of citrus trees..... I'm gonna have to hack it back soon!!! Respect, Z
0 amanito Posted June 4, 2012 Zake, would you want to take some pics of your Alicia? And if someone has pics of tetrapteris that would be lovely to. New topic or something. Torsten do you have this material as well?
0 Torsten Posted June 4, 2012 Zaka, that convolvifolium is an interesting one. It also has the right number of cilia. But the leaves don't quite match mine. The tuber is just like mine though. Amanito, which Tetrapterys?
0 Zaka Posted June 5, 2012 Zaka, slightly offtopic ... have you tried any of the local acacia's already? An extraction could give you an idea how much alkaloids they contain. I really wanna visit your country next time I'm in the region, shit so many interesting plants on the list Irie Bro, Nah problem mon! Just drop by! I was growing a local acacia that got knocked down by the last hurricane.... I did however harvest the root & bark!!! Really have not had the chance to try it out, less time than materials!!....but some may find it's way to your doorstep?? Somehow??? I'll find some pics soon! T. The whole tuber thing is quite interesting! I think the leaf can vary quite a bit! Respect, Z
0 amanito Posted June 5, 2012 Still searching someone to analyse after HPLC broke down. I'd like to buy some material from kiwi otherwise, but on dmt-nexus their ID'ing is being discussed, no? Torsten: yeah, Tetrapterys methistica for example, because it's also one of those lesser known ayahuascas and lookalikes. Just wanted to know if you grow those to see a picture.
0 dionysus Posted June 5, 2012 T, ive not noticed before, but are non-caapi ayahuascas ever available from the SAB store? they look quite nice, i would quite like to grow some oneday.
0 Torsten Posted June 5, 2012 I've held off on selling the Stigmaphyllon because I couldn't work out what species it was [and couldn't even be 100% sure of the genus]. we'll propagate this in spring for summer. we used to sell black caapi, which may well be a different species. I have a few others coming along now too so hopefully in summer we will have a bit more variety. amanito - sorry, don't have any Tetrapterys. Got that confused with Heteropterys for a moment.
0 amanito Posted June 5, 2012 What will you do with the ones which stay unclear? Keep on growing them until you get a proper ID or get rid of them and start with properly ID'ed material?
0 Torsten Posted June 5, 2012 I never get rid of plants unless they become a problem [eg weed]. My private collection is far bigger than the 500 or so species we grow for the nursery. I try to keep everything labelled so that I can always go back to the ID process later on. Often the ID in my garden is more accurate than the ID in the field as I can take various specialists to the same plant and send pics from any time of the year to any botanist in the world. I don't have a space problem here so can keep adding new ones ;)
0 Torsten Posted June 5, 2012 trunk and exposed tubers plant 1. this plant is very neglected. no food. no potting up for 5 years. just regular pruning. trunk and exposed tuber plant 2 young leaves against light background to show cilia leaves Mature leaves [cilia mostly gone] Mature leaves - underside compare with S.auriculatum [s.aristatum] I am not so sure that your plant and mine are the same. In your pic there are some very pointy ivy-leaf shaped leaves. are they the same plant or something else. if it is the same plant then you might just get a lot of variations on your plant. like I said, i've seen some very round ones on my plant.
0 Torsten Posted June 5, 2012 While looking for odd Malphigiaceae in my collection today I found a Banisteriopsis angustifolia. I had no idea I had this. will need to do some consult my database to work out where I got that from, but just thought I'd mention it here. Once I get some pics and details I'll start a new thread. So if you have any info on that species please post it there ... then.
0 Zaka Posted June 5, 2012 Irie, T. you could post it up on this thread, Banisteriopsis angustifolia very interesting! I was potting up some coffee seedlings today & came across a stick just sending new sprouts..... The label said Banisteriopsis muricata, but if it's the same vine I got from Kiwi, it maybe miss ID'd.... I think I remember tracing it down to Banisteriopsis mathiesea(?) I'll have to look it up later.... Respect, Z

0 Torsten Posted June 6, 2012 these are the leaves that confuseme on your plant. is this the same plant as the round leaves in the foreground or something else?
