0 jebus Posted May 13, 2012 Thanks guys, El presidente Hillbillios mate no pics of the gills, I would have to rip it up but if you guys think it is worthless I can rip it up and get some pics and a print. what do you think good idea? Cheers J.
0 tonic Posted May 13, 2012 Yeah, I recommend waiting until the pileus matures. Since there is a few, you should be able to pick just one. Get a good clear photo of the gills/pores. That will help with a better ID. I'm pretty sure it's not edible and it's definitely not an active species.
0 jebus Posted May 15, 2012 Guys thanks for your responses, I was afraid it was a useless mushroom. I found a couple more patches of them and I ripped one up pic below if it helps ID this sucker, i think a snail got to it cheers guys
0 Marcel Posted May 15, 2012 Useless nothing! All fungi have a role in our ecosystems and this little Cortinarius sp. is no exception. Sure, you can't eat it and you won't trip off it, but you can appreciate the fact that it helps decompose vegetative matter and keep our soils vibrant and rich! They're also very beautiful mushrooms, and to look and admire and feel the beauty of the world is nothing to shrug one's shoulders about. Have a look at others of this genus here. Amazing!
