The cyclone has officially hit land as the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) registered "very destructive winds" in Pardoo . Cyclone Lua is expected to make its way further inland within the next 24 to 48 hours. Australian Weather Fire Road & Police Warnings posted on twitter that the eye of the storm and the strongest winds had just hit the coast, and were expected to move across the coast further inland within the next hour. A red alert has been issued for Port Headland, although the Australian Weather Fire Road & Police Warnings are reporting that the town may have escaped the brunt of the cyclone , experiencing only rain and some gusty winds. The BOM forecast winds around 150kph and said rainfall was expected to exceed 250mm. Tropical Cyclone Lua was upgraded to category 4 earlier today as communities took shelter along Western Australia's northwest coast following the issue of a red alert. Cyclone chasers in WA reported "extremely violent wind" in Pardoo as the eye of the storm passed over the coast, according to the Twitter account @cycloneupdate . LokStok Posted March 17, 2012 EMERGENCY warnings have been issued for communities along WA's northwest coast as Cyclone Lua hits land, in the city of Pardoo. Pardoo consists of a roadhouse, a tavern & a caravan park, all part of the same infrastructure. Oh and theres Pardoo station down the road a bit. Interesting to see that its been upgraded to a city.
Jonstn Posted March 17, 2012 Way more dramatic if it's called a city, gotta love news :s An update: There is an immediate risk to lives and home of people between Bidyadanga and Port Hedland, FESA has warned. Stay indoors, away from windows (keep them closed, obviously), and do not come out until authorities have given the all clear.
