T. Bridgesii "Jeans"

Recommended Posts

Those of you who have purchased T. Bridgesii from me may be interested in checking out the mother plant - here she is in all her glory!

post-10185-0-96729700-1331099583_thumb.j

She used to have about 7 long arms of about 2 meters in length each. I dug up the plant, removed these arms and planted her into this big clay pot. Since then (about 12 months ago) she has thrown out abundant new shoots. The total age of the plant is unknown, but I estimate it to be at least 10 years old, and perhaps as many as 15 or even 20 years old.

As a side noet, I tried to add this photo into the gallery (into the album "cacti and succulents") but it came up with this error message:

[#1-gallery-review-process-5] Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature. If you are not logged in, you may do so using the form below if available.

I tried making my own album but it wouldn't let me do that either. Frustrating!

Very nice plant, Jeans. Has it flowered yet? I hear voices in my head that command me to tell you to create some awesome hybrids with it. God wills it. :innocent_n:

It hasn't flowered whilst its been in my care, and I doubt it will for another year or two. I don't know this, just intuition - those new shoots 'feel' too young to me to bare flowers. If it does flower though, I'll put a post up about it.

I am happy to part with some more of it if anyone is especially keen - at the usual price of $0.80 per cm. Just pm me about how much you want. However, it will take me about a week to get back to people to confirm that I have enough (I would be happy to remove perhaps a third or even half of the shoots, but not more).

Nice plant :)

So does a story come with it?... where did she come from?... how did you come about to dig it up?... seed or clone?...How long you had it in that pot?...

It's a very nice plant! :)

Are you certain that you're the only person whose named that plant though?

It came from the property of an acquaintance in the Adelaide Hills. I asked them if I could take a cutting or two when I noticed what the plant was, and to my astonishment, they said that they considered it a nuisance and said I could dig up the whole thing if I wanted! I have no idea whether it was grown from seed or cutting - they didn't give me any information whatsoever about its origin.

Are you certain that you're the only person whose named that plant though?

No, I'm not certain of that at all. I only decided to give it a name so that people could know its origin. Several people who have bought it from me have told me they think its quite different from other bridgesii they have seen. However, if someone can determine that it is an already-named variety, I'll start using that name myself.

So nice to see a cactus that isn't just a single column sticking out of an ugly plastic pot. Top stuff!

Got yourself an aesthetically pleasing cactus there with a bit of history and luck to boot. Nice one :)

Here are some pics of my 3 "jeans" plants. This is a very special cactus to me. I may, (most likely), plant out the other big one in the front garden in a couple of months time. I would like to see it flower and make some crosses with it one day.

If anyone else has pics of their Jeans I'd love to see them. Has anyone else flowered? Made any hybrids with it? :)

Hi mr Jeans! I know this is an old thread but do you or anyone else have a cutting of this they would be willing to spare?

What a beautiful plant!

Hi EG, you are definitely welcome to use my pics for your site. I would love to see a page for Jeans on there. :)

BTW, you have my express permission to use ANY of my pics I post on SAB for your trichocereus website if you would like to. I always credit other people in my posts if there is any picture that isn't mine, but that is very rare, I usually only post images that I have taken myself.

I can also email Sir Jeans and ask him if he'd mind you using his pic of the mother plant in the first post if you would like. I last contacted him via email a few months ago and he told me he had forgotten his log on for SAB which is why he hasn't been on in so long.

Mrcuriouscacti - I don't know how a cutting would fare with US customs officials being sent in from Australia, this is not one I would like to go missing or be destroyed!

I have not yet spread this plant further than one small cutting into a friends garden as yet. I do want to make sure it gets distributed more and I'm hoping that putting a couple into the ground for a while will mean it's growth starts to happen as fast as possible, it's been a reasonably slow grower for me so far. I have to admit the thought of cutting it does bring me some pain, but I would be willing to do maybe one or 2 small cuttings quite soon but I would only offer them for trade for another interesting cactus.

Awesome Zed! Thank you very much! Will add them today! And will be adding a whole lot more pics in the next days. Now that the new Layout is there and i don´t have to deal with the buggy Menu anymore, no holds barred.

Also agree your most likely one of the few people who grow this clone. So yeah, would be awesome if some experienced growers would get some to propagate them any further. It would be sad to have them end up getting lost.

bye Eg

Oz can ship cuttings to the USA with no customs problems.. Don't ship lophs though, that can lead to uncomfortable questions..
