ballzac Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) syrian rue seeds...but they're far too expensive in australia.. You can get them cheap at Turkish groceries as esphand, though I would think they're illegal to use. In fact, making a tea out of them or anything would constitute a preparation and that could land you in a fair bit of trouble. According to SAB, consumption is legal in some states, but as far as I know preparing it into a tea would still be illegal, so I've edited your post accordingly. Make sure to check the laws before posting to avoid breaking the rules (EDIT: Consumption would still be illegal if it contravenes Federal law. I'm not sure I understand the laws completely, so if anyone has a better idea, feel free to weigh in.) Edited February 13, 2012 by ballzac

incognito Posted February 13, 2012 Tulsi tea is great. Talking about and understanding your emotions and thought processes is better. A good counsellor helped me out a zillion fold. And is free through the mental health service. Talk to your gp about it. Getting ur emotions and thoughts out, then presented back to you, really benefitted my own recovery process. But yeah tulsi, torstens partners shop sells it, but yeah recognizing u have a mental health issue is the first step. I recommend seeing ur gp and having a yarn. Don't settle for just any counsellor though, u really need o e u can work with, so if ur nOt haPpy with the counsellor go back to ur gp and ask for a other. Btw it's all 100% free.
donjuan Posted February 13, 2012 This isn't a quick fix, so it may not be what you're looking for, but I find a daily cup of raw cacao + hot water (and sometimes a teaspoon of sugar, to lessen the bitterness), a capsule or two of 5-HTP (griffonia simplicifolia extract), and a good amount of time in the sun (preferably gardening, or bushwalking) is the perfect foundation for a continued sense of well-being. That, plus reading or some other equally stimulating mental activity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffonia_simplicifolia http://www.medsci.org/v04p0053.htm
korbbit Posted February 14, 2012 Thanks. Il try and find some Turkish groceries. And also st Johns Wort sounds appealing but i dunno about tinctures i dont really want to shot vodka everyday. maybe brewed in a tea. I've got a salvia splendins plant on the way, apparently that can have calming euphoric effects. And very sorry about my original post! didnt know rue tea was illegal. next time i will do my homework first And i eat heaps of fruit, vegies and wholegrain shit aswell as taking multi's and riding a bike everyday. These things make you feel better, but theres that blurry line between feeling healthy and feeling good. I think social relationships is probably where im failing

indigo264nm Posted February 17, 2012 Sceletium as mentioned... and also ye olde Hypericum (St John's Wort) is the standard plant based antidepressant used in herbal medicine for it's SSRI action.
planthelper Posted February 18, 2012 Sceletium as mentioned... and also ye olde Hypericum (St John's Wort) is the standard plant based antidepressant used in herbal medicine for it's SSRI action. indigo, pls don't take that the wrong way, but... hmmm, there is nothing wrong with your statement, but just the simple fact, that you wrotte about a maoi and a ssri in one sentence... never ever mix st. john wort with sceletium or worse with a ssri anti depressant. now some of you, might say, i'v done it and i was ok, but this doesn't mean it's save. some people seem to be far more sensitive to serotonin syndrom than others. once, i used st. johns wort ticture for a couple of weeks, and than a stupid friend (which i helped big times at that time) begged me to, try out one of his ssri pills. the effect was scary. never mix caapi, rue or any maoi, with any ssri!!! mud Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) Get some 5-htp and tryptophan. On an empty stomach and a cup of coffee, these amino's are as close to a real roll as I ever dared imagine :s I've found they make me feel good, sleep well and have more 'cheer', some kind of infectious armour of positivity. Taken with a meal, or intermittently- a very good positive sustained lift can be experienced. I can't help but notice it makes me look more tanned too :S They're legal. More or less natural. And its what your body turns it into, that's best. Also, califnornina poppy's are good to munch all summer long. Nothing like eating a flower or 3 to lift your mood. I believe them to have some kind of neurochemical balancing effect. They're good for your brain and your nerve's like : ) And take the green smoothie challenge. Just blend up your choice of greens in water a few times per day, or juice green and drink it. Keeping your body alkaline is incredible! get enough green plants into you and it'll change your life! Celery greens, italian parsely and watercress or all contain growth hormone precursors. Get that gear up ya Edited February 20, 2012 by mud

Thanks for pointing that out. My statement was a little bit ambiguous. I never meant to imply that both herbs should be taken together. I was simply listing two different herbs. Also Hypericum's MAOI action is so weak that it now believed that there is a different mechanism to which it increases serotonin levels (if it really does at all). Any interactions with medications or other substances is most likely attributed to the effect on cytochrome P450 enzymes at this point and there have been no known reported cases of Hypericum being responsible for an MAOI interaction with another medication. It is quite important to note that it can be deadly to combine MAO-Is with SSRIs. But Hypericum is no MAO-I! It is a SSRI.

planthelper Posted February 22, 2012 But Hypericum is no MAO-I! It is a SSRI. all the info i read, said hypericum is a maoi, but new findings, surface every day. hypericum tincture from the pharmacy, always gave me a uncompfortable side effect, which habitus i have forgotten unfortunately. i think, and i guess here, it was an edgey feeling in my chest, which pulled a bit. why i reacted to bad to mixing hipericum with a ssri, is now a mistery than, but it would be nice to see a reference to your statement. hava Posted February 23, 2012 Try dark chocolate + real coffee for a small lift Definately regular exercise and a complete healthy diet. From experience I can say that depression is not always 'medical'. It can mean you are not happy... which is why you feel... not happy. Try changing things, your location, your hobbies, your friends, your TV habits, unhealthy habits, rearrange finances. It may be your body/mind/spirit telling you something is not right in your life, and if you are unsure what that something is just start fixing stuff! At the very least you will improve your life! I believe our 'surroundings' are a reflection of our internal mind, and vice versa. Following this idea maybe to force a major change in our internal state we need a major change in our external life... eg.. moving state or city. Live in the city? Move to the country. Depression is depressing. Also, reduce alcohol and nicotine intake.
