By mid-winter it often gets too cold for subs in Jenolan... still on in the Blue Mountains around that time though. Autumn seems the best...

"Marvel"? Break my heart, why doncha.

Um, yeah. Slipperies are for drying and then used as a sort of mushroom stock for soups and stews.

C'mon guys. Let's set a date. I've gotta prep my wife and work...

Alright then. Let's make it the weekend of the 24th and 25th of March. That's three weeks away. I reckon the subs will be up and running by then. They were at that time last year, and this year's colder and wetter. Yeah?

Let's get a show of hands for the 24/25th.

Big Bad Col is there.

Great thanks to the executive committee for making a decision.

Now my life has focus direction and purpose again.............

As opposed to meaningless bliss.

Ok guys, hop on board.

I'm off Oberon way this weekend for my annual Polish family mushroom hunt. 30 years and running! I'll scope out the sub situation while i'm there.

Also, i had the first fungi dream of the season the other night. Always a good sign! I dreamed that there were so many mushrooms in the forest that you couldn't not walk all over them.

If its anything like last season your dream will be fulfilled. Oberon should be saturated so funghi growth should be optimum! Well I can provide a genny and some food. Most important item is firewood so everyone should bring as much as they can carry.

Alright. So I hit the Oberon/Jenolan area on Sunday and did very well with the Saffron Milk Caps. It seems like the big rains mid last week rotted a lot of specimens, but there was still way more than enough for our party of 12 after 2 or 3 hours of leisurely picking. Only found a couple of Slipperies. And unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to go out into the native forests to scavenge for subs. We didn't have much time and none of my non-"head" party could understand why I wanted to drive around looking for mysterious mushrooms that "can't be eaten".

I'll teach youse my secrets at the camp.

Here are some photos from Sunday.

Just heard a reliable report from the Jenolan/Oberon area of a generous p. sub find made yesterday. Woot!

I'm getting pretty excited for this trip!

Few questions though:

  1. Is there a designated camping area that we'll be situated?
  2. If so, are there cooking facilities or amenities?
  3. If not, and we are setting up somewhere in the bush, do we need to organise camping permits?
  4. Does Marcel really have a cool moustache?
  5. Is the world really ending in 2012?
  6. Is there really life after death?

Ha, ha. Actually, number 4 is a little more complicated than that. There's a beard now accompanying the aforementioned moustache.

SO where are we meeting?

I haven't been to the g-spot before.

Also, I might need to get a lift if mine falls through. Happy to pay petrol.
