myco Posted January 20, 2012 so this is my second grafting attempt this time using a piece of the crest i got in PD's auction not to long ago its been about 6 days now and looking good it seems to have taken without any problems very small amount of orange on there but my first attempt was much worse so i dont expect to have any problems with it heres my first attempt for those who didnt see (http://www.shaman-au...l=&fromsearch=1) & heres some pics of the crest graft
niggles Posted January 20, 2012 lookin good! youre a brave one using expensive pretties for grafting so early! Ive done a bunch now and Im still not convinced Ive got it down.
myco Posted January 20, 2012 haha yeh i was a bit worried about it but it had to be done i got some peres and a bunch of loph seedlings to try next not quite sure if im looking forward to trying i think thats gonna be the hard ones seedlings are so small and you only really get one chance with seedlings
niggles Posted January 20, 2012 yeah i have a dichotomous loph seedling, a small part of me wants to graft it, but most of me is set on being patient and watching it grow itself.
GoOnThen Posted January 20, 2012 You have bigger balls than me I would have grafted any everything I could get my hands on before I attempted the crest You probably will have failures with the seedlings and peres but if you have heaps of each you just keep on trying until you get it down. Cheers Got
tipz Posted January 20, 2012 Wow Myco ! good luck man, looks like you are going to win this one though ! Did you leave the rest of the scion intact ? I will be letting my little brother from the same mother beef up a bit before i get the chutzpah to start slicing and dicing him up. As for loph sedlings, I have so many coming out of my piehole that I need to be brutal in my peres grafting as a form of population control ( Im even going as far as feeding them fluoridated water )
Jonstn Posted January 20, 2012 I'll take some of those seedlings off ya hands tipz Good luck myco! Got more balls then me grafting a crest for 2nd attempt
myco Posted January 20, 2012 haha thanks guys it was a bit of gutsy move this is just one of many pups on the crest so theres plenty more bigger and smaller pups on the original graft from PD. i have to say it wasnt easy to get a cutting from so damn spiky and so bunched together
PD. Posted January 21, 2012 Good stuff myco! Looks like itll take no problems. Ive done a couple more grafts of the crests, the mother plant of the one you got perished but not before i got a few more grafts out of it. Just waiting on some stock to root and ill get some more done.
myco Posted January 21, 2012 thanks PD. such a shame the mother perished lucky you got some more out of it before though i'd probly try a few more grafts to but im pretty short on some root stock to use should have some more ready to go soon though waiting on a few to root like you and have a few more cuttings ready to be planted
