Morning Glory ID

Question

I'm almost sure these are morning glories, not sure if they're ipomoea, I think they're "Convolvulaceae Ipomoea purpurea".

I went searching for seeds, after half an hour I accepted defeat, I'm new to botany and ethnobotany, so I think perhaps I have to wait till the seeds mature? I only found baby flowers wrapped up, and some bloomed flowers.

EDIT: The image viewer isn't great here, so there's links to imageshack here:

These are morning glories, right?

I hope they contain alkaloids.

Also, anyone know what plant this is?

in australia the wild invasive ipomea indica almost always never sets seed.. so you'll be disappointed there... spreads vegetatively & is a pretty terrible weed in many places..

maybe in the tropics it would set seed, i've never heard any reports.. not even sure if it's a weed in tropical australia

Ah yeah, I was thinking this was the case.

I couldn't see anywhere along the vine where a seed pod would form, and where new branches where forming, seeds were not the case, it just spread by growing around :(

Ah well, I'll try and get some of those passion flower seeds and plant them.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

I'd love for more people to post what they think the MG is.

Interesting, I had heard the same about other morning glories, but I had just assumed that there'd be no real value for a recreational side in these ones.

.....very interesting. *research beings*

I was wondering why I could never find seed pods of the MG that grows round here. I never realised MG was illegal in Australia.

The seeds come in a fruit after the flower is pollinated and drops off.

I have heaps here, and I have mistakenly identified it as I. violacea.

I can harvest PLENTY of flowers (research only) though so I maybe will try and do some research down that route.

Once I noticed the morning glories, I now cannot un-notice them, they really are everywhere.

I'm going to do soem reasearch into the flowers though, there's not many flowers considering how much vegetation though.
