haha, that the warning one of my friends who primarily grows bromeliads gave to me before we walked into a big cacti nursery open day many years ago. :)

They have monster flowers do you know if they are self fertile? Their fruit is so good.

No idea mate, had nothing to cross it with so I guess we'll find out if they are self fertile.

It's supposed to get to zero here tonight so I moved my potted trichs and other sensitive cactus to a more sheltered area for the winter. I put a lot of my trichs in the ground this summer so they're just going to have to tough out although I do expect they'll get some holes due to frost damage come spring.

Planted a cut of Tipz Macro, over 2 meters tall and a nice fat cut of Goliath.

Cheers Tipz.

Lol Getafix thats a whole lotta macrogonus right there. I can only imagine how much of a task that would have been to get that transported on site, and propped upright. If that refuses to pup and keeps growing I wonder how tall that will go to? Theres a pachanoi at a beach close to me thats another story above the house its standing next to, just due to the fact it only has three main limbs.

Hey Nemistry,

It actually wasn't too bad to move and plant, have done a few big ones in the past so got a good method going on.

Time will tell how big it will get, just hope if it topples over one day I am no where near it as it has some mean spines, lol!

looks like someone didn't like the cold mornings. question: should i cut the pup off the side, pop it in the shed and lay it flat, or is she a goner?

I am beginning the arduous task of unearthing and transporting all my babies to a farm where they can never be found.

drastic measures undertaken to avoid having my whole collection ( years and years worth ) taken from underneath my nose which has just happened to a close friend on this forum :(

A sad day indeed

@zelly, awesome as always. The jourd certainly seems happy.

@jihadist, are you in Aus? I heard about the plant ban that was getting thrown around but didn't know it went into effect.

The information in this thread linked here is enough for me to take the precaution. ( I have had many many dealings and communications with the member this has occurred to and quite frankly It makes me nervous !

( by the way... It's Tipz here... went for a spur of the moment name change when the law fired the first shots of the war against our collections. So the cactus jihadist I now am ! )

Hey everyone

Ive been traveling up north for the last week and i came home to find my favorite baby fried in the sun :( , she is abit squishy, im not really sure what to do besides keep her out of direct sun light.

I had one do this, I made sure the marked side was not getting too much light and it eventually recovered with minimal marks.

Today I opened a box I packed about 7 months ago and it had a heap of cuttings in them! A lot were dry and dead some were still growing with albino pups.

Nah, I'm not qualia. Some are either etiolated, scared from no light, severely dehydrated and with mould/black marks (that look like they will survive) or so bad that they have oozed onto the cardboard, then dried in a black once slimy puddle, lol.

See how we go :)
