Found this picture online, can anybody explain it?

attachicon.gifimage.jpg

^^^^ rootstock plant grafted to loph button vascular bundle

zoomed in, its fairly easy to see its not photoshopped

I've actually seen a few pics of rootstocks forcing pups through the scion without making a mess, though can't say for sure that's what's happening here.

Here's one but I've seen it with thicker stocks as well.

https://mycotopia.net/topic/90653-pereskiopsis-root-stock-puping-out-of-a-lophophora-scion/

Thought you fellas may be interested in this one.

The scions isolated growth from the main body on the stocks calloused tip. Looking forward to seeing how it goes

Hi micoz I took the second photo in 2008, that takes me back. I called it the "tree climber" back then but it was the same as the "sausage plant"

Later I saw very similar plants growing down cliffsides at Colca Canyon in southern peru. It's obviously a strategy.

I'm still trying to get my sausages to grow in a tree!

I've seen pics of Trichocereus germinating on tree branches and growing in a normal way.

I believe micoz' 1 pic is like that

i think it could be quite advantageous, my flowers are getting to the point where its a bit tricky to get up so high. if i hang them from a convenient height and they continue to flower it could make things much easier. then again maybe ive got too much time to think about things.

on todays note, got about 60 little seedlings out of their containers and into little pots. Theyre PC cross either super ped or crazy spine bridge, too early to tell.

^^ looks scop to me but then ive never owned a pc pach and they look a bit scoppy to me on here

hope its a scop for ya , can you grab the plant without the spines hurting? is my ID technique for scopers

looks like theyre a bit long for that on yours

i can only just feel the spines on my scoppajes when i grabbem

and can barely see them ... except on the seedlings - lol

(thinks its a trichocereus scopulicola hybrid possibly - however; scops are born with spines and keep em for a few years, just not seen one that big with em still)

but everything else like the matt finish skin and the ribs at the tip and the colour are all screaming scop at me :innocent_n:

what a beauty though ! thanks for sharing pics and look fwd to more !

Oatis, what label did the cactus in post 2523 have when you bought it? Reminds me of one of the Cuzcos from the Sacred Succulents Field Trips.
