Got the Winter cold greenhouse setup well enough to start moving plants in.  I still need some shelves for the shorter plants so I can pack them all in for the soon-to-be cold and rainy season.

Nice GH setup mate .. I think my grandad used to call them cold frames..

what a great idea! and good to see a similar climate-ish in CA to the one I grow stuff in..

was just on about that in another thread *twilight zone music*..

contemplated which ones will most likely have to come in and how to overwinter them ..

2017-10-15 16.55.24.jpg about 7 of them at least ... or 10 .. or 15 at least come to think of it..

and how that will free up the area for enhancing the mini pichu .. and developing it ..

Grandi is staying out for sure as well as the 'kinopsis's but getting scared for pachs, bridges and ech' minuana :/ and the taquimbo.. n scops..

... a little scared for terscheckii too but think I can spare it for a test..

kinda confident in pasacana but regardless, with those spines it can stay out anyway :P ...

..maybe I will bring it in tho still..

hmm *chin scratching time* ... it's pretty fkn warm out and knowingly brought most of the cactisserie in early so there's time for now..

hmm forgot about stetsonia being out too ..

... maybe better spent terraforming

-since there's no weed whacker/strimmer to mow with after battling it out with the rain last time till smoke started piling outta the damn thing.. so I guess they don't like to work in a decent rain..

Thanks.  It's still pretty warm during the days though rain is finally neigh: the end of another long, dry CA Summer and I appear to be "done enough" in time.

I scored 4 nice, new, double panned windows (cheap) from second hand building supply place here and they defined the structure.  I'll hack some more sealing of the gaps but it doesn't get *that* cold for *that* long here - at least not most years

I expect I'll need something to accommodate taller columns next Winter :-)

Those stock Pereskiopsis of yours are looking fiercely healthy. I'm not sure how you could fail with such nice stock plants. From what I can tell, your seedlings were not just one or two weeks old. Please correct me if I am wrong. That cling wrap works great for older seedlings and can be used for much younger seedlings by those who are adept, I prefer to use parafilm though myself when grafting seedlings under 2 weeks or I simply go without any wrap altogether.  All in all though, I am very impressed with your grafting skills. Those who can't do critique. Those who do... well you do very well.

mine hasn't changed and still looks like yours used to .. I only had it not long .. and it didn't grow much so I didn't really pay much attention to it since that post .. I was just struck by how similar it looked to mine .. kinda furry in a way for the kinda pachs I'm used to seeing. so in a way to my noob eye , it does a bit yeah, down to the longy spines ..

..

being an Aussie clone I'll bet there's heaps of SABbers who could answer that better and hope they chime in for ya mate. there may even be a thread on it?

Today... I realized I was painfully short of Pereskiopsis for my grafting projects so I had to do make a few morecuttingtime2.thumb.jpg.90407df9049bbf746019df5185adffab.jpg before I could do  tonights grafts and not feel guilty. Lucky for me I've got the answer to everything, but try as i may I can't remember that I don't do my best grafting at duskgraftingatdusk8.thumb.jpg.6d4fe7cd0890a18da9f91da49c4963e0.jpg.

I stay JUST ahead of where I need to be on pereskiopsis.  I really should start a bank but I have plans for every one that is currently rooted.  LOL  23131985_10155376186747946_4071945828609

Even my cactus did stuff in the cactus garden today.  Cliff started his own garden.  22046450_10155279432457946_1748533133656

I love those peat pellets for starting Pereskiopsis cuttings as well. I wish I could say I stayed just ahead of where I need to be on Pereskiopsis but for every hundred I make I think I need another 100.

Alright, alright, alright... todays activitiesZelltgraftsdonetoday.thumb.jpg.facb3cbe2327c29015043faafe3aaec7.jpg taught me yet again... do not attempt to graft at night. I honestly can't tell where the bottom of a seedling is or the top at dusk and yet I refuse to stop grafting at dusk. As you can see, I had to give up part way through this run. Every last one of these is a Zelly hybrid so heres hoping something great comes from one of these.

Looks like you even missed the whole tray and grafted one seedling to one of the dandelions on the right.

Besides that, thats a whole lot of grafts.

Will these be growing under natural light?

I generally use Lugh light. Sadly, I only made about half as many grafts today as I am working with a painful Pereskiopsis deficiency compared to the seeds I have sown. Now I have to make up my mind do I graft what looks like a batch of mostly variegated specimens or do I graft what appears in my mind to be equally valuable....

Another day another tray. Grafting at dusk again. Just the last row... one of these days I'm going to learn.

Wow you've been hard at work Inyan!

What percentage of your fingers is now composed of pere glochids?

I get very few glochids in my fingers or hands due to the way I graft. I keep the parafilm between my fingers and the Pereskiopsis as a barrier. That barrier of parafilm is then unwrapped around the Pereskiopsis shielding me from most of the glochids. I use a razor blade to run the leaves off one by one which also helps protect my fingers. Learning to eat with chopsticks helps if your grafting very tiny seedlings as well.

I like that validus of yours. Many of the grafts I did yesterday were validus hybrids. Todays grafts were varied, but some validus hybrids made there way into todays grafts before dusk this time. Some hopefuls from some other hybrids as well were grafted.

No picture today, but another 40+ Zelly  grafts completed and some bud removal from previous grafts done today. One thing is for certain, if you make a few hundred grafts in a few weeks time your going to have to do maintenance on those grafts if you want them to grow at a decent rate. I'm starting to slow down in my grafting process as I have grafted 100% of those seeds I had to have or I would die and I've grafted at least 10 of each other packet of seed that are just plain kick ass. I'm noticing a few variegates from (SS02 x SS01) x Red Grandi. Some are more noteworthy variegates than others, but as most are still very small... the jury is not out on how they will look when mature. I'm absolutely falling in love with some of my seedlings already and my best ones are my smallest. Isn't that how it always works out? You get better seed later after your best stock has been mostly used. Seriously folks, I'm down to perhaps just a few hundred Pereskiopsis. What is a graft addict to do?
