What did you do to your cacti today?

Recommended Posts

I do have a couple of blue tongues close by.  I'd imagine it'd be alot worse if they weren't.

KfgOnqJ.jpg

I will perhaps try a thick ring of copper then.  How wide were the bands on your citrus?

find the nurseries and perform genocide,  and when having a big problem like me, rotate your pots -  they like to sit in the shadiest and wetter spots , dont let pots be directly close to each others, sometimes they sit just under pots margin.

TH> Thankfully I have no toads on my roof and honestly we never had so many snails. It seems as if my roof had many spots that could serve as nursery, too much weeds on the pots for the me to eat and hide under, leaves in plastic bags being composted, soil escaping from pots holes plus the wettest automn in some years..

Spots that can serve as nurseries should be cleaned from live or dead plant matter and soil completely. Regularly check the spots the next days, more snails are born

Come out when the rain stops and you will find them on the act.

Sagi, you could crush them all up in a bucket with some rain water to cover them and ferment them for a few weeks or a mth. Inland Rice farmers with no fish scraps on hand do this in poorer countries as a food source for their crops.

im sure your plants would love the shell/flesh concoction

Just got done moving last weekend so had the lovely time transporting half my collection

I have lots of cutting and potting to do now, even though it's getting into the colder part of autumn here. Probably start my seed sowing here in a week.

Just took a picture of a taquimbalensis X bridgesii  I grew from seed I received from Maxuel Powers 3. I was curious if anyone knows of someone who has crosses with taquimbalensis? Seems like I haven't seen any hybrids with that species.20161110_162902.jpg

Potted up some cuts from Rodni and Delia- peru MG Red, peru John, Potent and  Eileen. Then repotted a Loph into a sexy pot. Walked around and checked out all the crazy awesome growth going on at the moment. Man it is so hot and dry up here in the tropics and the plants are going off. Took some photos.

Also noticed green fleshy spines on some new pups you can see here on this sausage pup, but also noticed it on some peru pups also.

Something strange also happening with my Loph, it seems to have wet stains from liquid in the centre every morning and evaporates during the day. Can anyone explain whats going on?

Ive had a super busy spring so far :)

Grafted onto 100 trichs and 60 peres with approx 85% success

So now its time to start re proping out the stock so i can do it all again.

Today i potted up 60 pere tips and 30 trichos tips.

Its looking like the other trichos will have to wait for tomorrow

It was a cut that Interbeing gave me 1-2 years ago.

I believe he got the whole plant from a gent called Richard?? But he will have to confirm this.

Nice cut and seems to be a little rib droppy? It was a small cut and has taken a bit to get going but i think it will power along this summer.

What did I do today?  It being the start of December - and thus the start of winter in this hemisphere - I put all my guys in their winter quarters - cold frames.  To keep them dry for 3 months - I try to make their conditions as close to those of the Mexican desert - where they nearly all come from - as I can.  They will stay there until spring is sprung in March.

EDIT: and so glad I did - 17 and 18 December the 4 year drought finally broke - torrential rain for 2 days - a bucket left out filled up to the top.

Potted up a few cuts with revised technique, hopefully I can go away without having rooting plants fall over. The majority of plants shown are well established and on offer at my next market stall. I bought that fat bridgesii as 'Single spine', just noticed some areoles have a second spine emerging haha.

I've been mucking around a bit; expanded the fledgling collection to 20 plants now; potted a couple more cliff cuts; laid down some zeolite as surface cover; put up a couple of tripods to shade the rosei 1 and 2 tips; covered up the wee Len that got a bit sunburnt last week.  Mostly everything is rooting in but it is starting to look quite nice.
1iOGOIy.jpg

After making it all pretty and going to bed with that special feeling of completeness, the two cats decided that the zeolite made perfect turd dirt.  What a debacle.  I caught one pissing in there yesterday morning and gave her the hose. I can't imagine it is too good for the plants so I've put rocks around the pots and staked out a bamboo forest.  It looks kinda nice but don't trip on the steps..

Rosei 1 and 2 with their little shade huts; they have recovered from their touch of sun and are showing some growth.
QhmksAF.jpg 5I1rgZu.jpg 1ibxVqg.jpg 9TCgx58.jpg

Also one of the Cliff cuts that is only just rooting in is coming along with 3 flower buds.  There might be some pollen up for grabs soon.  I'm keen to trade some back and forth if anyone's interested.

I wasn't thinking scop but it does sound cool.  I'd give it a crack.  I take it you'd like some cliff pollen in return?  I don't know how long it will be is all.

Also I don't know how viable it is after postage?  Do you know what the best method is?  Obviously air shipped with a dessicant like silica?
