What did you do to your cacti today?

Recommended Posts

Took some pics of a few plants that almost died in a move...thought a few of these wouldn't make it. Damage is from sunburn after being boxed up. The last of the four I just thought was looking nice

This last one is a tubercle graft from a really nice ariocarpus that started to rot after bad sunburn. All attempted tubercle grafts died, I held on to them though hoping I might get some growth later on..10 months later a few heads look to be forming

I'm by no means an athority but I had severe problems putting seedlings that size in pots that large. about 1/4 rotted out. I find I have much better success if I keep em trayed and together till they are at least an inch. Even then I go 4 to a 3.5 inch tray. But if it works for yah! Go for it.

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Did you get that LJ cut from that guy in Ft Lauderdale? He had dozens just like that labeled exactly like that, and we all didn't know if his stuff was real.

no i got this one from one we all know is real :) but thanks for the heads up ...,

i saw an ebayer in texas a few times over the last 2 yrs with something sold as LJ too which kinda looked amiss

(not that they would sell me one when i asked - both times)

but sure as sure can be this one in my post is the genuine article and an authentic LJ beyond all shadow of a doubt and then some... :3

I wondered how long it would be till it's authenticity would be questioned ... only had it for 5 or 6 hours lol

and um... they surely dont got my handwriting?!!! i hand wrote that label 2 weeks ago it's the first one i ever wrote that says trichocereus lumberjackus, i did write a T' lt' columbojackass one though for a clone i've named from here in the uk when i didnt have the eye and thunk it may have been an accidental LJ

but now with experience and a better trained eye i can see what folk were teaching me back then [in the form of a concise and clear "no" lol] and how my 'jackass was miles off being an LJ - only shared it's "balcony grown conditions" colour .. dreamy aqua.. mmm

wheres ft lauderdale? florida?

and oh yeah... mines a little crushed so missing many spines and the odd areole/half areole and the spines that survived are mostly flattened... but defo not whistling dixie ;)

i cant wait to see what it's "outdoor hard grown conditions" will morph into in my "indoor controlled conditions"

hopefully wont lose its characteristic spination like my validus mutt did but i wouldnt love em any less about it.

here's some examples of cacties that morphed in the pictures below..

i tried to get good shots of both parts of the plants..

oh yeah , i'll add as many different angles of the columbojackass (last 6 pics) as i can get too,

(all pics are labelled for this post) so you can see how far out my guessing games were (hence the 'detective columbo' ending up looking a jackass lol)- before the USA's undisputed alltime top cactual masters here at SAB; taught me a thing or 2 over the last coupla years about my fantasy trichos ..

[that they grow so well and flower reliably much to all of our benefit]

and so you can get an idea of that dreamy aqua colour i was on about-

photo steals some from real life tho..

and oh yeah , i still wouldnt be able to ID an LJ yet myself, only had a few hours with a particularly beaten up one, but luckily there are those usa cactus gods i mentioned who can , since they already got LJ for ages and know it growing and flowering -probably like the back of their hand...

p.s. maybe if the lauderdale's a low down dirty rotten faker ....;could poss buy it and rename the clone to cucumberjackshit? ... but would run it by our experts first just in case they might be the genuine article..

do you has piccies of it/them or a link please?

(i may bag that clone name at some point if nobody finds a use for it first and if i come across something i may of thunk looked lumberjacial... )-

(i do this kinda thing, I guess, to signify milestones in my learning to reflect back over how dumb/right I may have been for later-life chuckles)

p.p.s. i only aptly named this plant i call 'jackass because it had no name originally..

and would only rename something if misidentified that there was no other correctly named one of...

or if it rode thru the desert on a horse with no name -like the lt' columbojackass ['jackass for short]

also ,.. erm i mean ..

p.i.s.s. {lol} renaming stuffs willy nilly that already goes by a name is defo a booboo... and to the grower's folly,-

and their reputational detriment as far as i learn. - even if they're really cool otherwise ,- and can possibly put a dent in their learning..

i believe there is scope for one plant i saw in usa to be renamed to T' colosspot (to sound close to toss pot)

-could call it colostomybag too.. - not the genuine colossus article ...

i believe they may have also sold non-authentic LJ on ebay as far as memory serves then changed its name to their own made up one, showing maybe theyve learned now tho ...

cuz they seemed cool otherwise..

aaaaaand, i cant be having no artificiality in magick,... and cuz its not just my collection so it'd be lying to my kids as well as myself if I did .. and if we ever share a plant down the line.. it would be bad juju to send it out misdislabelled.. *dreams up random scenario*:-

imagine having a terscheckii or something.. labelled validus and tryna show it off for ya birthday or something.. on SAB (!) or having a gibson les paul slash signature series with no cobra inlay!!!

anyhoo let ze pixxxx commence!!!

No worries I just just checking, he was selling tons of these lil cuts for $10-$15 of many strains but they were all pretty damaged. Ddin't know if you grabbed one of the few A grade ones and grew it out. No worries though looks good. I need to top mine, she;'s getting a lil long in the colunm. Here in my local it grows tiny short spines, isn't as fat, and is a nice aqua blue. I'll photo her and post a pic. I thik I was gonna try to get EG a pic cause it shows its spines from CA vs Sub Tropics in spines by inches. Also I thihk the falli ng out of the spines in mail is a Lumberjack thing, it happened on mine too, I have a 2-3 inch bald spot where all the spines just fell out of the top and sides on tip. Looks like you lost some top spines too.

About the other Lumberjack I know one guy was selling one that when informed it wasn't a lumberjack changed the name to centipede. I got a cut of that if you want it. Slow grower but really blue here and really dense.., Its tuned into a nice cacti I think it I replace the soil it'll probably speed up. My soil skills weren't as good then when I planted it.

sounds awesome! , I think that was the one i saw that time on ebay cuz centipede sounds familiar..

one with ridiculously really really really fkn long spines?

if so,t was a nice plant and would be totes up for one ...

but I'ze in limbo ready to jump ship atm and just itching for my last mail of this snail addy ..

and on hold from getting anything that takes longer than a couple a days [or so] postage for now in case I get a house-move.. defo in future down the line though and thank you kindly for the offer!

sorry for the lecture if you were already wise to the LJ lol i guess i ramble when excited x]

but i also guess it may help noobs that might read it who also seek and hunt these lovely cacti and are prone to being toasted by nobby ebayers

Oh yah some of the named CV's I see for sale make me just laugh. Yes that is hte same strain the centipede had like 4 inchs spines when I got it, but since I'm on equater and get short amount of bright sun the spines are smaller at around 1-2 inches.

Looks right at 2 years ago, and then changed name when he was informed by the trolls. Say what you want he's a stand up guy. I had bought one just cause I wanted a cut reguardless, and when he found out it wasn't a lumbjack he offered to refund me.. I told him don't worry about it just send me a cut with those spines.

oh no , i'll pass then thanks all the same thanks, i have too many bridgesii with spines of that length

...and with only limited space; I'm looking for unique clones.

Perhaps i should just stick with the original plan of hunting the likes of eileen, bruce and psycho0 ,..

-they'd be worth the morphing just to have genuine ones to photograph while they still look hard-grown in el scorchio weather...

and yeah that was the ebay ad right there ^^
