sagiXsagi Posted February 7, 2016 fancy pants they root relatively easy - the fresher the degrafts and more plump, the more successful and quick the rooting.. I root in perlite
FancyPants Posted February 7, 2016 Thanks :D The heads were quite healthy, the rootstock rot was very new and quite sudden! All of the heads are now drying nicely and have formed a nice pale green, no browning thank goodness. I was going to use perlite to sit them on to dry, then I remembered I'd used the last of it to repot other bits n bobs...

Psylocaria Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Thankfully my mom is babysitting the majority of my collection while the family and I travel and live in apartment. The small portion that I am carrying with us, went outdoors today, night temps being in the 50s. Also picked up my first T. taquierensis down the street, cool. Psylocaria Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Doublebenno, thanks for the look, getting ready to pull a couple scions off of it, one for the tall pachanoi, and the other for the Mexican fencepost. Running low these days on options for grafting Stock. I'll post up my progress, looking forward to getting the ball back rolling again. MrDoRight Posted February 12, 2016 Potted up some T.Pascana and what was labled as T.Validus although I'm suspecting they're probablly closer relatives to the taquiernsis or weirdimanius(sp) these are about 8 years old

MrDoRight Posted February 12, 2016 This came from a varigated pachanoi and Iam wondering if it too is varigated , the light blotches do remind me of varigation but I'm not sure.
zed240 Posted February 12, 2016 This came from a varigated pachanoi and Iam wondering if it too is varigated , the light blotches do remind me of varigation but I'm not sure. I think that looks more like TMV (tobacco mosaic virus) markings than it does variegation.

theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted February 13, 2016 More practice grafting to the zygo cactus as stock. These trichs are approx 3 weeks old and starting growth now, they were kept for 7 days in a humidity tray and have been out for approx 2 weeks. Here's some Rosie open from eth on own roots And a 5mth old zygo graft for comparison. I have also grafted Astro to the zygo successfully but have since degrafted them all to trich so can't take a photo sorry. It works really well for small seedlings and the Astro were easier to graft going zygo > trich
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) If anybody wanted to graft to zygo I would suggest rooting your zygo pads out first. They can take anywhere from 2-4+ weeks. I use fresh big pads with rooting hormone in a sandy mix. Keep relatively humid and misting daily. You'll def rot some, it's just how it is. This is 2 weeks in a greenhouse and it's unfortunate comrade, you'll loose probably 1/5 of your cutting you try and root Ps sorry I don't actually contribute here often, I hope someone finds the zygo stock useful. It could substitute Peres no problems as far as my attempts are concerned. Edited February 13, 2016 by theuserformallyknownasd00d

DiscoStu Posted February 15, 2016 i thought this was dead and was going to throw it out, luckily i didn't why does this thing look so munted still? it's been like this for about 3 years not a cactus but i'm pleased with the newer bushy(ish) growth. also got sunburned fields pach x roseii1 on right, psycho0 x paradeyes on left macro x roseii 1 - nice red spines on the first, curious lack of spination on the other (i don't expect this to last) dchiw you plant seeds but the labels rub off. i think one is puquiensis x ayacucho , the middle is a TJG of some sort
sagiXsagi Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) mrdoright>> nice ones.. (the terscheckii-pasacana - taquimbo looking ones) discostu seems like a termination, either from pest or other cause.. with some luck you might have a new form of monster if it doesn't want to grow why not graft the heck out of it, but I might change its substrate first cheers we are all nuts! DiscoStu Posted February 15, 2016 with some luck you might have a new form of monster :PX i might put it on ebay as a new variety, l. williamsii monstrosa var 'nudum', sell it for $3000
solomon Posted February 16, 2016 Admired the herds growth spurts. Sowed some Tricho crosses from Ethereal Drifter & Bogfrog. Cut up some Schlumbergera/Zygocactus for grafting stock. Damn glochids. Potted up the Peres army from Bogfrog. Damn glochids. Potted up the Austrocylindroputina and regular Opuntia for grafting stock. Don't try and remove glochids with your teeth. Finally put some corrugated iron around the future rockery/cactus patch as walls/heat traps. Battled many a feral rose bush and started turning over the soil, which was remarkably fluffy. Now to start adding lime, ash, soil from the chicken coop, riversand & pebbles..
