J Smith Posted June 21, 2013 Hey bogfrog when you say full strength worm juice do you mean straight out of the worm farm? I always dilute mine to 1 part worm juice, 9 parts water. Full strength seems a little strong?
bogfrog Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) I think it was diluted already before we got it, we dont have a worm farm, just got given a big bottle of worm juice. It looked pretty watery and the people who gave it to us said we could use it just like that on plants, so i imagine it was already mixed. i'm very impressed to see new sets of leaves sprout in such a short timeframe. J Smith Posted June 22, 2013 Gotcha. I've only had my farm for 6 months, may try mucking around with different strengths come spring.

CβL Posted June 24, 2013 Twas a while ago - but I phoned an 0800 number on the bottom of my favourite pots, and was thrust into National Treasure 3 reached a plastics company, and ordered 300 spartans pots.
naja naja Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) Just a note, that link above from me is just one I found and needed somewhere to put it at short notice, so I chucked it in this thread.. It's not my plant. Unfortunately. Looks like another inermis type Echinopsis. Edited June 24, 2013 by naja naja
Kykeion Posted June 24, 2013 Just a note, that link above from me is just one I found and needed somewhere to put it at short notice, so I chucked it in this thread.. It's not my plant. Unfortunately. Looks like another inermis type Echinopsis. I think I've stumbled across that pic before, pretty sweet. Did you notice the purple crested Echinopsis they have in that same gallery? bogfrog Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) Rum&Monkeys, the seedlings are roughly a year and a half. Very slow growing but tough wee guys. The seeds came from Woof Woof Woof I smiled at my newly sprung trichocereus validus seeds. I thought i'd get em ready for spring grafting since i had room on the heatpad. Thanks Mushroomman for sending these awesome seeds to NZ and thanks CBL for sharing some with me! ... The seedlings are kinda pink huh? Are your guy's seedlings pink too? Maybe it was the GA3 i used? mushroomman Posted June 25, 2013 No probs bogfrog, glad you had good germ rates too my ones started off like yours too, I had 100% germination with mine. I still have a heap of these seeds left so if anyone would like a few shoot me a pm here are my validus seedlings.
bogfrog Posted June 26, 2013 Wow MM those are some crazy looking seedlings! They look like little aliens to me :D Do you know if they are pure validus or a validus hybrid? So stoked to have some on the go finally.
mushroomman Posted June 26, 2013 Hey bogfrog,I think they are wild collected seeds. I got them from cactus hobby, they are some real weird looking seedlings nothing like any of my other trich seedlings i cant wait to see how these turn out. here is what it said on there site Trichocereus validus ( Monv. ex Salm-Dyck ) Backeb. Cactus (Paris) no. 46-47: 265. 1955 LOS COLORADOS LA RIOJA AREA FORM / large white till pink flowering plants , very good for grafting , flowering mostly in night / (Los Colorados , p. La Rioja , Argentina)
bogfrog Posted June 26, 2013 Even better!! Have you grafted any yet? They remind me of my saguaro seedlings, similar odd angled shape to them eh.
mushroomman Posted June 26, 2013 Yeah I grafted 1 a couple months ago but it isn't much bigger than the others yet. I think it is going to be a slow starter like the SS validus I grafted about 4 months ago that has only just started growing now. When I get back home this Sunday I will take some pics for you
Getafix Posted June 26, 2013 My Validus seeds from you (Mushroomman) germinated 100%, just put them down a week or so ago. As you say, unusual looking seedlings! Cheers mate
mushroomman Posted June 29, 2013 It's great to see everyone getting such good germination rates from these seeds, I ordered heaps of them expecting poor germination rates like all the other validus seeds I have had in the past. I can't wait to see how they look in a few years time
gwalchgwyn Posted July 2, 2013 I touched 'em. All are swelling & poised for a season of growth. Last month's superfertilizing seems to have had a positive reaction as I've never seen such happy columns. Still keeping an eye out on the seedling from SS during one of their recent trips to the Andes, an NL collect. Poor thing: I haven't disciplined myself yet from drowning the whole thing, then having to find it and replant it. One would think I'd get a clue and use a different watering method. T. peruvianus 'Los Gentiles' from several years ago is finally this year achieving a mature girth. does anyone know an assay on it? The name is auspicious... Evil Genius Posted July 3, 2013 Assay like how nice they look? Sure. Assay about potency not! No Discussion about that please!
