Snowfella Posted September 30, 2012 Looked over the whole collection for mealies, and not suprisingly found quite a few of the little nasties, and sorted through what needs repotting. Plus took another few photos of the whole insanity. This was the bulk of the collection in February last year. And now
bogfrog Posted September 30, 2012 Haha so the exponential growth of your collection continues. A very neat and tidy set up though, mine are scattered all over the show!
J Smith Posted October 1, 2012 Potted out a couple of mammilarias I got over winter, gave the rest a feed of half strength Charlie carp. Trying a weekly feeding regime this year in the following order, everything half strength, seasol, Charlie carp, thrive, Charlie carp, seasol, Charlie carp, thrive, etc. For the last couple of years I've just half strength Charlie carped every 2 weeks. I'll only use the thrive while I have some left over. (null)
gtarman Posted October 1, 2012 I moved my takeaway containers into a position with no direct sunlight and removed the plastic bag covers...I also thought the new home was especially fitting - Williamsii var. Texana, now growing on a disused BBQ for extra Texan mojo.
mystic_b Posted October 2, 2012 Had to do horrible things today. I left my crested pach outside over winter and we ended up having some heavy snows, which normally never happens! Anyway it got a few spots of rot. After continuously cutting the spots out over the last couple of months I realised I was going to have to take some drastic measures to save the plant. Here is the result:

domide Posted October 4, 2012 Today, I began life for twenty-five pachanoi seeds. Using Rev's takeaway container tek, osmocote cacti soil and no antifugals, I'm hoping to see signs of life in the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty excited - its the first time I've grown cacti from seed.

r2pi Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) Repotted a few, weeding at the same time... have been unable to find any pots between 290 mm and 450 mm so went with the 450s Gonna be some big boys in those in a couple of years time. They have been sorely neglected in 250 mm pots for a few years. I find Trichs don't mind being cramped too much if you keep the food and water up, but there comes a time when the plant weighs 4 times as much as the pot and it's very hard to keep them upright without leaning them up against something. So the new pots feel good. Took some cuttings a few days ago, left out in sun to dry off (contrary to popular advice but always works for me)... except today it's raining and I forgot to put them under cover, oops. Still a work in progress as the pics show. The second one I have high hopes for as a pretty-boy specimen of my favourite clone. J Smith Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) Potted out 92 rosei#1 x pach and 80 pach x psycho0 seedlings I planted in April. Awesome germ rates as I had thought i had planted 60ish of the rosei x and 90ish of the pach x. I obviously can't estimate seed numbers. Only 6 more take away containers to pot out over the next 2 days... Edited October 6, 2012 by madhouses visites

Evil Genius Posted October 6, 2012 Auxin, the world needs more closeups of your cacti. They deserve to know what types of Trichocereus and other dwarf species an Auxin grows. Got some escobarias too? Arent you living somewhere they occur naturally?
Auxin Posted October 6, 2012 What I need is to start remembering to rename my photos so I can find them Yup, got some northern E. vivipara. Theyre actually in the ground here But not native, only non-Opuntioideea stuff native here is Pediocactus nigrispinus. I tried like hell this year to cross E. vivipara with Mammillaria rhodantha, but alas there will be no Mammibaria baby pics
Evil Genius Posted October 6, 2012 Totally love Pediocacti! Are they producing seed? Most seed in europe is crap.
Auxin Posted October 6, 2012 I dont have any in my collection yet, or not any more as mine died. Oddly they are never sold here, my region gets all its market cacti up from arizona and new mexico and they never bother with northern cacti, lol This winter I'm trying seed again. watertrade Posted October 7, 2012 Today i repotted some lophs that were long overdue for a change - they were in the pots for the last 3 or 4 years. While cleaning the roots I found some had mealy bugs ( degrafted plants without main taproot mostly) some were in pots whose old potting mix had a kind of dry powdery mold I think they will enjoy their new pots.
r2pi Posted October 7, 2012 Nice collection of Lophs How old are the bigger ones?
watertrade Posted October 7, 2012 I think the biggest ones are about 7 years old. I can't remember exactly. when I do the rest I will get pics of them too ;)
