Philocacti Posted April 7, 2011 Well i thought since i'm new here i should post of my collection. It's divided to 2 groups, one group in my balcony, which i believe they need more pampering, and the other group is on the roof getting all day direct sunlight. these are 1 year and something old seedlings (mel/vin's crosses)that i recently transferred on the roof
solomon Posted April 7, 2011 Nice collection Philo, I had always thought you had more though Always cool to see cacti in the city. Can we get a big pic of that Loph graft to drool over? What are Mel's crosses?
tripsis Posted April 7, 2011 You have some nice cacti there. The fat Loph graft is sweet, as is the T. werdermannianus.
Philocacti Posted April 7, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys I had always thought you had more though it's because i post a lot of each individual plant, mostly my grafted ones I still have the other group, but it's not as much as you expect them to be What are Mel's crosses? SS01xSS02, SS02xSS01, SS02xBridgesii, BridgesiixSS02, SS02XPachanoi, SS02xJUULS I thought you had some. Here is the lopho graft today edit- this is it 2 weeks ago Edited April 7, 2011 by Philocact
Alice Posted April 7, 2011 And the loph graft is in full sun all day? Sweet. That's got to be one of the most blemish free grafts I've seen.
lophty_tricho Posted April 7, 2011 Nice one Philocact! That is one fat single headed graft, have you been removing pups? You'll have that roof covered in no time!
qualia Posted April 7, 2011 hmm, that loph is sublime...
Gunter Posted April 7, 2011 awesome!! i love the seedlings, seed is the best way to obtain and propagate these plants
Philocacti Posted April 8, 2011 thanks people Alice - yes it's in full sunlight all day lophty_tricho - it never pupped before, which made me assume it's a williamsii at first, however since it started flowering i concluded it's a hybrid because it's not self fertile and the flowers look different than known breeds of lophos (at least to my inexperienced eyes) qualia - thanks Archaea - i second that. When these seedlings grow bigger i will have more cacti than i can handle
mutant Posted April 11, 2011 Cool shots, I love to notice the surroundings and backgrounds in collection photos. Hey Philo, show them the slow growers too, you got a fine collection mate That's got to be one of the most blemish free grafts I've seen. MAYBE, that's because most lophos grafted are of the caespitosa var and are more prone to orange rot.
Philocacti Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) for you mutant T. werdermannianus T. terscheckii T. chilensis T. pascana which i don't have anymore, i gave it to a friend (who is a much better grower than i am) so it's not in my clollection anymore Lophophoras this was an areol graft which pupped 40 days ago, but there is something orange in one of it's areols a W. l. jourdania graft that i will degraft and grow on it's own roots (if it roots) this lopho is a hybrid for sure, because i was playing with my finger in it's tufts and i noticed that it has very small spines in all tufts, the flowers are much different than jourdania melted wax bridgesii on stenocereus melted wax bridgesii on pereskiopsis A. fissuratus on myrtillo Trichocereus seedlings this bridgesii seedling dropped 2 ribs, it's 4 ribbed T. peruvianus/cuszco base pupping Edited April 14, 2011 by Philocact
lophty_tricho Posted April 14, 2011 How is the A. fiss going? looks slow for a myrti graft. nice group of creatures you have there!

bℓσωηG Posted April 14, 2011 Awesome plants!! Amazing solitary Loph, i wish my larger grafts would stay solitary like that, and it's loving the full sun as are the rest of them... The L. jourdiania will be an interesting re -rooting for you ... thanks for sharing Philocat.

George Posted April 14, 2011 That yote is a monster. Lovely. Stroking hairy tufts can be dangerous. :D
Philocacti Posted April 15, 2011 thanks a lot guys How is the A. fiss going? looks slow for a myrti graft. nice group of creatures you have there! well i was thinking the same thing thing but some cactophiles including Hellonasty, told me that arios grow very slowly even when grafted. It wa grafted for about 10 months on pereskiopsis then right before the winter (about 4 months ago) i cut it and regrafted it on this myrtillo here is a pic of it right before i cut it Well this season i grafted a few more and at the end of the summer i will graft them to stenocereus or T. cuszco as they are the fastest cacti i have after pereskopsis. GOT thanks a lot for your kind words bℓσωηG - thanks for the positive vibes , this is a very hard to type username, how hard is it to log in :D The L. jourdiania will be an interesting re -rooting for you . I have no clue how i will do it, im thinking of splitting it in 2 sections, do you have any other ideas? I can't even get the pereskiopsis of of it mutant you humble me my friend Your plants have a hardgrown look i dig, maybe it's the dust where you're at i think it's both the dust and the sun, I believe the sun also plays a major role. Like around the fall all my trichos turn yellowish (i believe it's the angel of the sun rays) and when the spring comes they start to green up again. But i guess your sun is not that different; maybe slightly less intense. Stroking hairy tufts can be dangerous. :D L. hybrid: "Hey stop playing with my hair or I will bite you!!!!" hahaha, maybe me fiddling with her hair arouses her that why she's my only lopho with so many flowers on :D Today i had a visitor on my roof she started eating my pereskiopsis leaves, i guess she was thirsty I also want to introduce my T. pachanoi freak
qualia Posted April 15, 2011 dang, nice collection bro....
bℓσωηG Posted April 15, 2011 hey what the hell IS that pachanoi doing? I have no clue how i will do it, im thinking of splitting it in 2 sections, do you have any other ideas? I can't even get the pereskiopsis of of it I had some similar grafts this year, although not quite as dense as your L.jourdiania ...but clumps of L.fricii and L.williamsii on peres i had to degraft... Got a new scalpel and proceeded to slice away where i could between pups, some places it was easier to give a twist to separate things... i ended up with some decent sized heads which i let dry and to be on own roots , medium sized pups which were needed to be regrafted onto whatever i could find... ( ended up using T.cuzcoensis, bridgessii, shickendantsii cos i was desperate.)... then i was left with a bunch of tiny pups which would have shriveled up to nothing if i had let callouse, so i did some large scion grafting of them onto pereskiopsis, lost a couple but most of them took. Not sure about leaving it so compacted and trying to get rooted it could invite disaster....
Philocacti Posted April 16, 2011 (edited) thanks qualia bℓσωηG - i bought this pachanoi like this, i think it has some strange shifting genetic tendencies or a disease might have hit it while it was younger here is a pic of the weird part when i 1st got it about the degraft i think you gave me a great idea, im going to try to loosen the the graft around there pereskiopsis and stuff some soil in between and lay on more soil so when i water it the water moves up the tissues around the pereskiopsis thus forming roots on the pereskiopsis and it might nudge the lophophor into forming it's own roots. Im not worried about rot because it's getting pretty hot here. Edited April 16, 2011 by Philocact
Philocacti Posted April 20, 2011 Sinocrassula yunnanensis one of it's tips is cresting i guess a dichotomous bridgesii seedling grafted on pereskiopsis a recently grafted ario seedling, cracking and showing weird growth
