A letter to the Prime Minister

Recommended Posts

I know that the internet censorship issue has been discussed here in depth, but today I took some action and sent an email to the hon Kevin Rudd and I want to urge everyone to do the same. I'm not so naive as to think that a letter from a single nobody porn/ethno/fetish lover will have any impact on these ridiculous laws, but... man.... you can't do nothing.

Here's the letter:

Dear Mr Rudd,

I'm writing to voice my opposition for the decision to censor the internet.

I am a responsible, law-abiding, family oriented adult who enjoys adventuring in cyber-space. I visit all manner of website, some of which may be considered offensive by some people.

I am not offended by any material I view on line, however, I am offended by the decision of the Australian government to decide which sites I can view from the privacy of my own home for my entertainment pleasure.

Surely, there is an alternative way to protect our young children from offensive material without placing a blanket ban on any sites deemed unsuitable by a conservative panel. I trust that you will reconsider this draconian action and introduce a different measure that does not encroach on the Australian peoples' freedom of choice.

Kind Regards,

Mr Ra Baelthazar esq.

Really, though, what can we do? We have no choice in this matter. The more I think about it the more violated I feel.

Then again, maybe it's a good thing. Instead of ethno forums and YouPorn, we might have to have regular physical meet ups to swap extraction teks and stage live sex shows in the Botannical Gardens every Saturday afternoon. "Come one, come all, bring a chair and a bottle of lube, pony rides for the kids"

Geez!!!

The great thing is "we" are not a single nobody...we are many...taking action and responsibility is always the first step towards prevention/change...

Tune in to the ABC tonight to see the efforts of GetUp members in the campaign against internet filtering. At 8.30pm, Four Corners covers the campaign and at 9.35pm, Q&A explores internet censorship, featuring former GetUp National Director, Brett Solomon.

Thanks to your efforts and huge grassroots opposition, the Government has finally blinked on internet filtering. Reports suggest that their plan to censor the internet has been shelved until after the election.

The campaign isn't over yet, but we've put together this action-packed video to thank you for your efforts so far. GetUp members have emailed their MPs, inundated the Minister with questions in Parliament and on TV, signed our largest petition and chipped in over $100,000 for a massive advertising campaign. Together, we've exposed the futility behind the Rudd Government's censorship agenda. Click here to check out the video and share it with your friends>>

Well but that hopefully does not mean that we give the idea of

regular physical meet ups to swap extraction teks and stage live sex shows in the Botannical Gardens every Saturday afternoon.

now a complete miss, hey?! :P

As a general rule Esq. is never used with any prenominal form of address, such as Dr., Mr., or Ms.

So you can be Ra Balthazar esq. or you can be Mr Ra Balthazar, but not both.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esquire

Thanks Nabraxas,

That I did not know. In my actual email to darling Ruddy I signed with my human name and did not use esquire. Good info though, in case I ever do decide to add esq. to my name.

Cheers.

You could try the approach used by 'The Young Ones':

I saw a doc on ABC where there was a internet course available for old people to get around the internet filter so they could still go to the so called 'filtered' or 'banned' area's of the net. Some of the oldies wanted euthenasia drugs so they could die peacefully but of course once the filter becomes law they would be unable to access them.

It was seemingly simple for the webmaster teacher of this oldies class to teach a bunch of 70/80 somethings to sidestep the filter and still gain full access to the net.

So is there anything really to be worried about, i dont think so. If you really want to you can swim around the shark net at your local beach.

This shit aint exactly new. Soothsayers 20 years ago ultimately predicted one day the internet would be divided into 2 category's, one being the prohibited side where there is porn and weapon making for example and the other side with iphone apps and video game reviews etc.

Pretty much the same as general society really, and if one day i am not able to access a transvestite shooting a can of emu export out of its cum soaked asshole i prolly wont lose much sleep, however i do sympathise with the loss of personal freedoms and human liberties.

One thing that I am a little concerned about is not the division into 2 categories but multiple categories, like cable/pay TV. Your ISP will only allow you to access sites you pay for just like your cable provider only allows you to access channels you pay for. I've been living in china for 7 years so Im used to bypassing walls - the bigger a system of control, the more porous it becomes. Corporate controls could ultimately be a lot worse. I don't underestimate the power/philosophy of open source but I also don't underestimate the greed of ISP's!
