howard calls election, tries to fobb off young voters

Recommended Posts

(please read and forward immediately to all young people you know!)

=================================

ELECTION EXCLUDES YOUNG PEOPLE???

=================================

Today the Prime Minister, Mr John Howard, has visited the Governor-General

and announced the next Federal Election, but in a clever, manipulative and

nasty law pushed through in Federal Parliament last year (the government

could "push" this, because it has a majority in Both Houses of Parliament),

the Electoral Act has been changed.

===============

WRITS AND ROLLS

===============

The Electoral Rolls will now close at 8pm of the day that the "writs" are

issued for the election, sooner than ever before. Mr Howard has - presumably

under pressure from lobby groups and his own party - still given some time

beyond today's announcement for closing the Rolls. At his press conference

this morning the PM stated:

"The writs will issue on the 17th of October, the (electoral) rolls will

close on the 22nd of October...."

When the Electoral Rolls are closed, it will be TOO LATE to enrol to vote,

and many thousands of young people are likely to miss out, and they will not

be able to vote!!

======================================

NO HOWARD VOTES FROM YOUNG PEOPLE???

======================================

It is likely that the government has changed this law, because it

deliberately wants to stop young people to vote because most young people

will not vote for Mr Howard or the Coalition government, but for Labor, The

Greens, the Democrats or for any other party or for an Independent.

===========================

THE CLIMATE & PLANET ELECTION

===========================

This election, more than any election in Australian history, is about voting

to protect our planet, and the party that performs best of all on Climate

Change, should become the party that gets the votes of all people.

And our guess is, that, more than any other age group, young people are

highly likely to consider the environment before all other issues when

making up their mind who to vote for.

================

WHAT YOU CAN DO

================

1. Forward this message to as many young people you know;

2. Phone all young people you know and mention this issue, and ask them to

enrol to vote immediately;

3. Send an SMS message to ALL young people you know, to your young friends,

to any of your children or grandchildren in this age group;

You can enrol to vote via the Australian Electoral Commission's website:

m

or here: http://www.aec.gov.au/Enrolling_to_vote/Ho...Enrol/index.htm

Don't these two statements contradict each other?

Updated advice suggests, that contrary to the earlier notice, there is no

additional time beyond 8pm on Wednesday 17 October for first-time voters.

While the electoral rolls can be 'adjusted' for address changes until 22

October, they close this Wednesday at 8pm for first-time voters.

Please adjust your alerts to young people to show this.

See the AAP report here:

the youth should be the ones too fobb howard off!

but seriously... :P

The libs VERY recent change to electoral roll law clearly discourages young people voting/enrolling. Bit vague at the moment but if memory serves me...I think their changes may even break some international conventions..

KEVIN 07! :devil:

Labor leads coalition in latest poll

Federal Labor has maintained its lead over the coalition in the polls with the latest survey showing Labor winning 59 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

The Sun-Herald/Taverner poll, conducted last week of NSW and Victorian voters, also shows Labor leader Kevin Rudd leading Prime Minister John Howard as preferred prime minister by 10 percentage points.

The poll shows 73 per cent of people aged 18 to 29 in NSW and Victoria prefer Kevin Rudd's Labor Party to Prime Minister John Howard's Coalition.

It also shows 60 per cent of those surveyed aged 30 to 54 years prefer Labor.

But the coalition just edges Labor with the over 55s, with 51 per cent favouring the government.

Labor is however favoured by 56 per cent of all women surveyed, and 62 per cent of the men.

The poll shows 73 per cent of people aged 18 to 29 in NSW and Victoria prefer Kevin Rudd's Labor Party to Prime Minister John Howard's Coalition.

That is because:-

A: because he is kevin07

B: 73 % of people aged 18-29 are oblivious to, oh, everything

Im turning into one of those people who dislike the whipper-snappers :) (my mum calls me that torsten, how old is she- :) )

I did catch j-tv some while back (I hear that young people listen to jjj etc) and they were really making young folk aware of these changes to enrolment dates(if thats what u guys are even talking about), therefore, even though this new "system" was not really publicly announced as it should have been, something with a strong youth market such as JJJ should have assured that this information was spread.... that is ofcourse, unless the whipper-snappers didnt think this important enough to share with there mates.
