bit Posted August 12, 2007 Mislabelled? Looks like macrogonus to me. Variagated? One side of this plant is pretty much completely yellow... Not sure if this is unhealthy or variagated? The other side is green. There were three or four of these, and only one had a yellow side.
0 Evil Genius Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) Hi Bit, i think you are right. It looks like a Trichocereus peruvianus with some nutrient problems. bye Eg Edited January 18, 2016 by Evil Genius
0 paradox Posted August 12, 2007 i recently bought a Trich from a seasoned old cactus grower. he had it labeled T. tacaquariensis. the thing with it was it was completely yellow down one side & he told me that all of the ones of that species he had all had that yellow sided thing (he does not rotate these plants regularly & he said the yellowing occurs on the north facing side of the plant) i don't really know, but i would have thought it was a nute deficiency coupled with sunburn but this guy is an amazing grower who i respect a lot & he was a little mystefied. (though he had soooo many cacti that they could have been neglected). this particular cactus looked a hell of a lot like yours bit & with the yellowing thing down one side it got me thinking. like i said, he had it labeled T. tacaquariensis. i havn't done much research & know crap all about this species but some photo's i've seen of supposed T. tacaquariensis sort of makes me question the accuracy of his id. anyway, i thought i should mention this. does anyone out there have knowledge about tacaquariensis? could this be what Bit has there? 0 Evil Genius Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) Hi Paradox, this is not Trichocereus tacaquirensis! Tacaquirensis is 4"-6" thick dark green upright stems to at least 10´ in height. 7-9 Ribs with large felty areoles and numerous thick dark spines to 3". White night blooming flowers. A bit similar to T. taquimbalensis. Found growing at 10.000´ near Chiquisaca. I´m not 100 % Sure but i think that i have a picture of a small tacaquirensis in my german summertime thread. It´s labeled Trichocereus cephal. but it´s possible that it´s truely an Trichocereus Tacaquirensis. I lost the label and now i cant tell for sure as my other tacaquirensis seedlings are still to small. The one in bits pic looks more like Macrogonus though! bye Eg Edited August 12, 2007 by Evil Genius
0 gerbil Posted August 13, 2007 just a guess, but i'd potentially lean towards sunburn as well, especially seeing the Opuntia pads in the background which seem similarly damaged. Were the others sides of the Opuntia green?

Were the others sides of the Opuntia green? It's not sunburn for sure. I know what sunburn looks like, and that's not it, not a chance. The opuntia was that coulour all over btw, and none of the other examples around showed a yellow side
0 Flux Posted January 17, 2016 this is the specimen labelled Cereus Urugayanus in the Sydney gardens (which also could be a mislabel, I'm not sure)
