Lupus Posted October 20, 2000 I recently discovered that I have Tree Tobacco (Nicotiana glauca) growing wild on my property, but I have no idea how it is used (if it is used). I was able to find the main chemical constituients, but don't have the books to look up effets and uses. The constituents are: Alkaloids; fruit-12,000ppm; Leaf-11,000ppm Anabasine; Nicotine; Nornicotine; Rutin; Leaf-12,000-21,000ppm; If anyone knows uses or effets I would appreciate the info. ---Thanks, Lupus
Torsten Posted October 21, 2000 I think this is th one that contains anabasine instead of nicotine. Anabasine has similar effect, but is supposedly less addictive. It was promoted for a while as a good way to get off nicotine.
Lupus Posted October 24, 2000 This plant contains a whole lot of anabasine. I have heard that anabasine might not be safe, is this true.
Guest reville Posted October 25, 2000 I read somewhere that is was used as a substitute for traditional chewing tobaccos in Australia(post settlement of course ) by aboriginal people - not suprising as it grows so prolifically on any bit of wasteland thats a bit limey
