i would have loved to have a stall there... but my car is broken... it's a mitsubishi... and when they blow their headgasket, you need a new motor... so I might as well get another car... still saving... I suppose I could ask for a lift, but who has a car big enough to give a lift to Oscar, me, and numerous plants?

Wow what a beautiful spot! and the music was just incredible, by far the best tunes Iv heard at a party.

Shame I was sick though, woulda liked to be more active but had a great time non the less..

Heard some bad news this morning though..They had a helicopter flying over and parachuters/jumpers were landing in the middle of the party. Apparantly one of the divers died last night after his chute failed to open :( can anyone confirm this?

Wow, Im very sorry to hear about that Dodie. I hope the whole thing hasnt effected you too much and I feel sorry for the victims family. at least he died doing something he loved!

Can I ask, was the diving advetised on the flyers?

I love sky diving and it will always be some of the best memories of my life but the risk you take is your own and one you come to terms with your own way.

Secondly by being at a drop zone you know whats going down and its your choice to be there knowing full well someone could die infront of you.

I dont think this is something that should be pushed apoun unknowing or even knowing electronic music festival goers most of who wouldnt really appreciate what could happen and are probabaly tripping balls or in an emotionly fragile state.

I think its irresponsible to show skydiving at an event like this, let alone displaying BASE style jumps from a helicopter at 2,500ft which is infintily more dangerous and prone to chute failure.

Sure it looks kool but at an alternative festival? its not a smart thing to do.

Someone is going to pay out for this BIG TIME and so they should.

I agree, this is stupid. Why draw so much mainstream attention to these festivals? For the money? Surely there is nothing environmentally friendly or responsible about base jumping from a helicopter and most of the punters probably couldn't give a shit about the show. When I first heard about it I couldn't even believe any organiser would be so stupid to allow this.

As for the jumper, if he didn't follow the required safety protocols [as is indicated in The Age article] then sympathy should be directed at the poor brainfucked onlookers rather than the idiot who intentionally risked his life.

Freaky thing is that another skydiver went splat in SE Qld the same day. Hit the ground at 70km/h...... and survived - sorta.

Absolutly, I dont think I made that clear enough in my post.

I feel so sorry for anyone that witnessed this and I hope they seek out compensation and or treatment.,

...another skydiver went splat ...

hehe humans WILL bounce rather than splat LOL. at that speed s/he would have hit the ground twice bouncing atleast 8feet in the air.

but really, yes the organisers really should have thought much longer about having the skydiving/base jumping at the festival, but i hear they only let qualified/experienced jumpers make the jump. the sure to ensue legal battle will be interesting to see because technically the hosts/organisers of the event cannot be help responsible UNLESS fault can be prooven on their part. as to weather or not its their fault shearly because they had such activities at this event is rather .....well a matter of opinion i guess. hmm now i think about it their decision to have said activity at said event could be seen neglegance and irrisponsibility on their part only due to the type of crowd the festival draws and substances those people may or may not enjoy. but i hear he was probably sober, and an experienced jumper, so who will be to blame im sure will emerg in a few months.

so very sad tho, sympathies to the famly and witnesses... :(

Hi guys,

I thought I might just say that to my knowledge the skydiving was NOT part of the production and it was not part of any festival packages or deals.

I am assuming it was permitted and arranged by the Land Owners of Gorge Station, and was possibly the owner's helicopter.

While the accident did happen at the site of the dance festival, it was a tragic mishap that had nothing to do whatsoever with any element of production.

OK?

Stop trying to point fingers when you really have no idea.

Not that I trust the police one bit, but.....

"Police say the helicopter jump - believed to be among adventure activities on offer at the festival - had been safely completed twice on Saturday."

:bootyshake:

btw, I wasn't referring to this as a legal responsibility [like andy says], but rather as an ethical responsibility.

Theres allways going to be an element of risk involved with extreme sports, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't have sympathy for the this guy, especially since he's leaving behind his family and friends.

i cant think of any other doof/festival/event that offers sky diving as part of the events... chopper rides sure.. but never actual sky diving for the punters.

If there is such things goign on, one would hope the landing/jump space was a 'safe distance from the festival site'.

Im sorry, but this event really sux big time... and those whom witnessed this tragic event were not for-warned of the possibilities of it occurring, whereas the person jumping from the chopper was obviously aware of the risks involved.

whosever call it was for the sky diving to take place within direct vicinity of the festival goers should be held accountable for the impact this event has had on the emotional and psychological well-being of those whom were unfortuntely exposed to quite a gruesome and tragick experience.

just speaking with a friend who attended the festival and it was one of the first things he spoke about. apparently the 'iceman' had been performing difficult tricks on all his previous jumps and must have made that fatal mistake this time 'round. my friend witnessed the fall from about 20m away, and said unfortunately for the iceman he did not die on impact :(

he was glad to have his wits about him at the time, apparently some other onlookers were quite distressed. my condolences to all affect by this tragedy, perhaps they'll rethink before finishing the festival off on this note again.
