Hey ed, if you try it with just stems dont forget to report your findings. Quantitative data would be useful too (How many grams of stems, how much water, length of extraction, ambient temp, etc.)

Good luck.

shows that H. salicifolia is found in Argentina, with a little extra info. The other species are likely to contain similar alkaloids. Plants for a Future regard the recreational uses of H. myrtifolia and H. salicifolia to be identical, apparently following W. Emboden's "Narcotic Plants". http://www.scs.leeds.ac.uk/pfaf/database/latinH.html Note that they are very similar, H. myrtifolia having smaller flowers. Erowid states that the Heimia salicifolia will grow to ten feet (alto de casi tres metros), H. myrtifolia only to three feet (casi uno metro). I would assume that the leaves of H. salicifolia are narrower and longer than those of H. myrtifolia, but only from the meaning of the names - hojas de sauce y mirto (o arrayan).

Plants for a Future also quote Emboden for a three day fermentation of the wilted leaves in water, plenty of time for those wild microorganisms to ferment madly, Auxin.

There is a photo of Heimia montana (and another of Decodon verticillatus) at w3tropicos, http://mobot.mobot.org/W3T/Search/image/iix216.html No information as to activity but at one time it was regarded as a variety of H. salicifolia, www.darwin.edu.ar/Catalogo/lythraceae.pdf .

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php3?ID=8521 is intriguing.

The auditory effects are interesting, has anyone noticed dream-stimulation from Sinicuiche? I ask because of my experiences with a puffball.

Considering that "....off the jungle" used to sell myrifolia as salicifolia and only recognised the mistake a few years after spreading the wrong plant, I would presume that both are being used around the world without people knowing.

No critique of "...off the jungle" here btw. Happens to the best folks.

Gidday folks. Some may recall some remarks I made about "the daughter of the Sun", the use of pure, unchlorinated water, crushed but still enzyme active material, avoiding high pH so as not to cleave the lactone, blah! blah!...I do go on a bit...

The alkaloid may be isolated without damage with anionic ion-exchange resin. I've used IRA-400 (OH- charged). After extraction with 0.05M HCl in absolute ethanol the liquor is passed through a column of the basic resin previously washed with absolute ethanol. Elution of the resin with ethanol yields the alkaloid. This procedure is aimed at the high end technicians and is my thanks to those concerned!

Otherwise the tea isn't too bitter if you suck it with a straw lodged down your gullet a bit and well back from your tongue. I usually reserve this "deep throat" technique for wormwood. Medicos refer to it as gastric lavage.

Thanks again, Auxin and Planthelper!
