Mat I get some help on an ID please?

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my first post of what I hope will be many.

Great site everyone. I'm new to shamanism, although I have done A LOT of reading, unfortunatly I don't have much experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm looking forward to changing the way I see the world.

First off I have a cacti that I bought for $5, on a hunch, at a flea market in Melbourne's western suburbs. I have know idea how to identify it. Is there an identification key for succulents that I might be able to download from somewhere?

Thanks

That's a Cereus, probably C. peruvianus. Very common. Not very interesting ethnobotanically, but makes a pretty good fence post.

some cereus sp have edible fruit as well, so yeah, if u can cross polinate with another cereus, give the fruit a taste. Im a big fan of the edible cacti fruits,(cereus, pittahaya, dragon fruit, opuntia(prickly pear) are all ive tried) full of antioxidants!!

is anyone aware of any other edible cacti fruits?? id love to add them to the edibles in my collection.

I've heard that lophophora fruits are quite sweet, although a little small to be much nutritional value :). I guess most people like getting seeds from their lophs also.

Look into Cereus sp

Trichocereus sp

echinocereus sp

opuntia sp

myrtilocactus sp

stenocereus sp

carnegia sp

thats the major edible genera

there splenty of cope to select premie cltivars

the cheap way is buy in 0000' seed and grow out and select

the expensive way is go to the hmeland and bring back seed or cuttings of local superior clones

opuntia and cereus are well into development

opuntia is well known and cereus is "kubo' fruit in palestine
