Hi folks, It's been a particularly hectic and stressful week, and when I need to relax and recharge I like to go for a walk in the bush. Today I went to a special power place and spent some time meditating and soaking up the spring energy. This is my meditation place, surrounded by the sounds of babbling water, under the spreading dappled shade of a tristaniopsis laurina. My psychedelic batteries recharged, I went rockhopping. There are a lot of very special trees down here. And I'll admit, I thought I had them worked out but I really don't. Some are classic obtusifolia, some are clearly longifolia, and some blur the lines between the two. Some are getting ready to flower. Same tree setting seeds, I'll be back in a little while to collect some. Scale farmers. Other trees that are identical in many regards have just finished flowering through winter. I collected seeds from one of these a few years ago, a tree full of power and it's progeny are winter flowering and lean very much towards the longifolia side. The tenacity of these trees is amazing. They find homes in tiny cracks in solid rock, and cling on for dear life, under frequent siege from violent torrents of floodwater. And yet despite their ability to survive through everything nature can throw at them, they are so fragile. Acts of ignorance and vandalism, perpetrated by people who either don't know any better or just don't care are killing them. Caught in the act maybe, or just bitten off more than they could chew, they leave huge piles of bark scattered to decay, and the trees to die. If you know people who behave like this, please educate them, the trees deserve respect, and it's so unnecessary to strip trunk bark like this. It's just not OK. But this isn't meant to be a sad post, it's a good day so I'll leave you with some positive vibes. If you could see this place like I did today.... Peace to all. G.
