  1. I've had some strange twists, turns and flat out walls in my spiritual path and would love to hear some other opinions on the matter From what i can gather at this point in my journey is: Through all senses (sight, touch, taste etc) and ones science has not yet discovered, data is constantly being input into our bodies and minds. This data can be transmitted through physical matter or by energetic means an example being magnetism. This translation of constant transmitted data between everything and anything is what we perceive as "spiritual". At the start of my spiritual journey it was very easy for me to accept spirituality but now i need a logic and evidence to back up any claim i have to prove its more than imagination (or ego) Any help would be greatly appreciated -Thanks all
  2. Are we living in a computer simulation? Maybe, maybe not. Enjoy There's some good discussion of this idea here too: https://aeon.co/essays/is-reality-a-computer-simulation-does-it-matter
  3. I mentioned this to some people recently and, to my surprise, it seemed to resonate with some of them in their search for truth. The Principle of Charity is a methodological practice in philosophy. It is that when we seek to understand a point of view or argument, we seek to understand that view in it's best/strongest/most persuasive form. Sometimes this involves a bit of reconstruction or filling of logical gaps. Once you've made the most sensible/understandable version of a view that you can, then you can set about evaluating and, if necessary, criticising it (philosophy isn't all hugs & puppies). There's important technical reasons for this, but I like some of the non-technical ones I've read: This attitude, if maintained, frees the conditioned mind and enables it to absorb and understand the new. Interpret unto others as you would have them interpret unto you. So I think there's both pragmatic (aides understanding) and moral (respect and reciprocity) reasons why this might be a good approach.

    Fusion event

http://fusioncon.org.au/ This is happening at the uni of Newcastle on October 15 from 9 am. The topic for 2014 is Consciousness. Speakers will be looking at this from a range of perspectives including Philosophy of Mind, Psychology, Meditative traditions and Artificial Intelligence. Keynote speaker is Frank Jackson! Possible chance of robot death-match*. Seriously though, this should be worth going to - all proceeds going to Headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation. * Robot 'death' is for entertainment purposes only and may or may not technically occur if combatants are not 'alive'.
  5. The usual, cliched, philosophical question: "What is the meaning of life?" never really made any sense to me. It is like a computer asking what electricity means... doesn't really mean much, but it sure has a purpose. So, it seems more pertinent to ask what is the purpose of life. For me, it seems the purpose of life can be summed it in one word: creativity. At a fundamental, biological level, as sexual organisms, our purpose is to reproduce. This involves creating a new individual that is novel in both is genetic makeup and epigenetic context (i.e. the environment that the child is brought up in). On a materialistic level, one of our purposes can be said to be creating physical (including pseudo-physical things such as software) tools that extend our capabilities in 4D space and time. At a more abstract level, we humans seem almost compelled to create art (of all kinds, poetry, painting, drawing, music, writing, gardens, computer code etc) simply for the gratuitous pleasure of it. Life itself can be seen as an act of evolutionary creativity; each new generation, and each successive species in the tree of life are novel adaptations on previous forms. The acknowledgement of creativity as a basic principle of life is useful as it provides a compass on what to do with our own lives - to absorb the creations/manifestations in the world around us, process them in our alchemical vessel that is the body and mind, and excrete our own unique creations. This then begs the question, what it is the end state, or attractor, for this creativity? Was the universe created so that humans could be created, so that we could create electronic circuits that could create a new universe in another dimension? Does this resonate with anyone? What do you believe the purpose of life to be? Does it even have a purpose?
