What did you do in your sacred garden today?

Hi, so after reading the daily cactus activity thread, I wondered why their wasn't a daily tracker for our sacred leaf gardens also :-) So today I constructed a small greenhouse for my sun sensitive and high humidity friends. I used a portable greenhouse but replaced the outter plastic with shade cloth. I also added an extra layer of mulch/compost to my medicinal herbs due to the heat and gave everything a solid watering. Worked on some coleus and gave everything a repot. The varieties I've experienced interesting visits with are emitting the strongest pepper/spice aroma. The heat has kicked in and so has their growth, watering now twice a week with 3 hrs morning sun. I'm also enjoying a nice bounty of completely homemade pasta sauce and bruschetta bread from my vege patch, man I'm gonna overrun in food from there shortly! Time to learn jarring! What'd you do in your garden today? D00d

    Ethnobotanical Kefir

G'day g'day I've been growing water kefir grains for 2mths now, my initial purchase of 2tbs grains has since multiplied into enough to do 15ltrs a day. I've started collecting well water off a friend as it's so large I cannot afford to keep it going by buying mineral water haha This got me thinking, what else can be secondarily fermented in the kefir? So I got 5 x 500ml jars and collected some of my favourite ethnobotanicals. Kava, kanna and heimia to name 3. In went a standard dose, plus some for the chef, and I plan to leave them all to ferment for 10-15 days. I rinsed all fresh herb with ISO alcohol and dried after washing off all debris and soil, then plonked into the jars which were sanitised in the dishwasher and the covers (stockings) were sealed in a bag with glen 20 to sanitise. Thus it all should be alright to ferment for 15 days with no contams. I usually secondarily ferment fruits etc for 24hrs so at least I hope they don't contam. I will then bottle each one and let fizz up with a bit of sugar to give me a coca cola fiz biz sorta thingy. It's usually just a flat fiz but if ya leave it for a week they get awesome fiz biz. But the longer ya leave em the stronger and yeastier the flavours become... Sooooo hopefully I can report some interesting experiences in 18-25 days depending on he fiz wait... At worst ill have drank some probiotics..... Peace

Ever adopted a dog? Pros/cons or stories?

Hey SAB! Me and my girl are wanting to get a new fury friend to round off our new place together! We want to adopt a dog past the puppy stage cos quite frankly, we both don't particularly want to go through that everything's destroyed period (particularly my ever increasing succulent collection ). Plus I really like the idea of giving an older dog a very comfy end to its life. One where it can laze around all day, get walked morning and night if it wanted too and generally be apart of most things we do. I think we've found the girl At the shelter when she's in her box she is a mean looking viscous pig hunting dog that won't stop barking at you to piss off. Soon as she's out on a leash she's a big softy who just sits with you and soaks up pats and cuddles. She doesn't jump which is a big plus but doesn't have basic training either or leash or sit/stay. The last thing we want to do is have to re-surrender a dog that's already been abused her whole life. Can I ask for some advice in general!? If you've adopted a dog how did it turn out? She's 6 years old and looks to have thrown out a lot of litters in her years, and been in a lot of fights. Should I assume her lovely temperament at the shelter would be similar at home? Could she be depressed at the shelter and turn out to be a playful non stop Psycho when she's in a loving home? I know it's pretty much unanswerable depending on the dog blah blah but what's your experiences?

Ever adopted a dog? Pros/cons or stories?

Hey Skelly yep all going very well mate! We haven't missed a beat! I am a shift worker tho and she's almost never alone for longer than 3-4hrs.. on the odd occasion she does 18hrs by herself overnight we might get some chewing in the yard... Won't let anyone thru the gate even if she knows them, with one exception due to lots of training and practice whilst were away or at work. Basically.. go adopt a staffy..!! Gong has plenty, I saw a lab x staffy mix for adoption at the million paws walk over the weekend
