    urban myth...

If anybody is still interested, I have found an article from ABC that was updated in February 2016 stating that although alternative methods have been trialled the Yarra city council in Melbourne is still using glyphosate in their parks for weed control. Here is the link : http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-02-16/councils-still-using-herbicide-that-probably-causes-cancer/7168464 I think it would be wise to avoid any mushroom growing in a public park that doesn't have weeds or grasses growing in close proximity. Then again many mushrooms are really good at bioaccumilation and can absorb a variety of heavy metals and other compounds that are present in their growing medium. So even if you find mushrooms growing in the wild it could pay to find out if there has ever been any human activity in that area. I know that old fashioned gold prospectors used mercury as part of the processing stage. This or any other chemical could potentially be absorbed by the mushrooms and lead to some unpleasant symptoms. I could easily see how the strychnine myth could have manifested over the years.

    Argyreia nervosa- inducing seeding

Howdy ladies and gents! I have recently discovered a one year old Argyreia nervosa on my friends property that has not yet gone to seed. I was curious if there is a method that can be used to induce or speed up the production of seeds on the plant in sub tropical conditions. It is currently in the ground in great organic soil and is about three meters tall and covering a large section of fence. It is in great health and growing by the day, but still no flowers or seeds for over a year! Does it need more time to mature? Thanks in advance.

    Botany study within Melbourne

Hello. I have been tossing up what I want to do for the past few years and have now settled on studying Botany in Melbourne. The issue I have is that there are two universities that have this course available and I can only chose one, either La Trobe, or the University of Melbourne. Both look equally appealing so I'm on the fence....bigtime! I plan to apply to one of these universities this week and commence study during second semester intake this year. Can anybody offer assistance with my decision who has previously or currently studied at either of these universities? Cheerios!!!!

Looking for B. Caapi in Perth

Howdy. I'm looking for an established Banistereopsis Caapi plant to purchase or trade. Preferably a potted specimen around the 1m mark growing on a trellis or stake Or anything larger. It will be planted into the ground in a well suited location at the base of an umbrella tree practically in full shade and misted daily. I can arrange a pick-up or a delivery would be much appreciated. If anybody has any connections please let me know. The sooner the better as the Perth summers can get pretty hot and dry and a transplant is stressful enough. Thanks in advance.

    Botany study within Melbourne

Wow, that's a lot to consider. So far I'm leaning towards the uni of Melbourne So the seminar schedule ( http://www.botany.unimelb.edu.au/botany/news/seminars.html ) pretty much covers all of my interests. I'm quite excited to see all of those seminars, especially the talk on the first sexual fungi. I also like the campus itself, and the course plan resonates with me=y current interests within biological science greatly.. http://bsc.unimelb.edu.au/plant-science La Trobe has some stiff competition. Cheers for the help. and what are you planing to study?
