Only if the parent was self fertile to begin with.

cheers, I have a spare pup if your interested. The pollination attempt didn't work but will hopefully have some differrent ones flowering next year.

It's another of my unknowns. All I know about it is that I bought 2 that looked similar but one was white flowered and the other supposedly red (hasn't flowered ). One is upright while the other has more of a clumping nature, possibly the white. They have a mature specimen of the clumping type where I got it so will get a pic next time I'm there. Cheers for fixing the pics.

smart ass I have tried pollinating it with a red flowering epiphyllum/christmas cactus type so will see if it sets seeds. I read somewhere that trichs, epiphyllum etc, and such are sometimes compatable so worth a shot.

I haven't managed to get mexicana to germinate, although I probably haven't tried too hard. The only difference I know of is the flower colour ( platyceras are white ) Did a bit of sampling in the first year I grew it but haven't tried it since so I can't say what the effects are compared to mexicana.

Was that the Argemone platyceras seed I sent you. I am still chopping the plant out so this species is pretty hardy and will regrow from the roots no matter how vicious you are with it.
-
Cheers for the names. Next time I see the guy I bought it off I'll run them by him and see if he can remember waht he got it as.

This is what a first generation cross between Pink Double and Persian White would look like if in places where legal. Later. [This message has been edited by garret (edited 26 October 2002).]

From a nursery/botanical garden south of Perth. http://www.holiday-wa.net/barragardens.htm Got a fairly good selection in the nursery and the display garden has some very fine specimens in it. [This message has been edited by garret (edited 28 October 2002).]

This just shows the comparison in size. The one on the right is a purple ( a bit anyway ) variant that popped up as 1 plant for the second year amongst the double pinks. The slight purple variant didn't result from cross fertilisation I'm pretty sure. Later. These are the F1 in all their glory. Pictures supplied by a Gnome from a country where legal to grow. Yep. All them have identical growth and flowers. Would be good as a F1 garden plant, if only singles were legal. Might have a little but I only protected a few from cross pollination, will see. Photos will be posted this weekend hopefully.

Just had my first flowers opening from my cross between 'Persian White and 'Pink Double'. All offspring are pretty much uniform in all aspects. Flowers all appear to be single and the colour is quite amazing ( will post pictures when I get a camera ) The height is around 5' 10" approx. 3 buds per plant. potency ? Could double flowers somehow tie in with potency at all ( genetically speaking ) Anyone know of the best way to develop pure lines?

Does this nursery still have it for sale?

Under the stars in the desert watching ufos

Me and my mate used to hitch into town pretty much every day after work. Pretty amazing that we got lifts most of the time even though there was two of us. Hope to get over that way in the next couple of years or sooner depending on how my job goes. -

After EB 2 I was suppossed to be picking fruit in Stanthorpe with a mate but we couldn't get a job due to lack of vehicle. He knew someone who had picked in Batlow so we got on the next bus down there. Was there about 2 months picking a few Kms south of town at Sedges orchard. Makes for an interesting walk back from the pub in total darkness. Definately want to visit the place again oneday. Later. -

One of the most spiritual feeling places ( scenary etc ) I have seen was in southern NSW around Batlow. Used to walk outside for a piss in the early hours of the morning and the stars were bloody amazing. The sunrises and sunsets were also so different to what we get over here in terms of colours and patterns. even the mountains seemed to have a weird presence about them. Later. -
I'd be interested too. Whats it grow like? Does it look like your average grevillea.

Nah, it was Green Earth Nursery in Baldivis. I went there today only to find out they are in the process of selling the nursery and haven't propagated any of their interesting herbs for around a year. They still have the parent stock but that will be going to the new nursery owners. Bit of a shame as they had some good stuff listed.

Mines going pretty good just lacks size at the moment. Have struck a few suckers from it so I'll try growing in a few spots and see where it grows best here. Thank for the offer though.

Mine starting to put on some nice young shoots now so will see how it goes. Seems to have taken a long time to settle in once I planted it out. I fertilize fairly frequently but it got neglected a bit while I was away during summer.
