  1. Come on, what about games like FF, Legacy of Kain, Secret of mana, chrono cross. Now they are good games.

Totally bro. I found Oblivion boring boring boring. Fallout to be not much better. Bottle caps are you serious. Wake me up when Assassins Creed 2 is out.

  2. Thats right but if the plant you take a cutting from is only 2 months old and you dont know the sex, what i mean is i will take a cutting and then expose to shorter light cycles maybe 2 weeks for flowers or buds to start appearing. Has this cutting got a chance of turning male even if the mother is female or will this be a fairly accurate test?

Sorry, I understand your q now.

I think it is completely unnecessary. At two months old, you should be able to examine the nodes to determine sex.

  3. The plant will generally be mature long before light cycles change to induce flowering. We are talking the 1-1.5 month mark from germination. If it is a cutting you can almost be guaranteed it is a female, who would be silly enough to take cuts from a male?

Yes that is exactly what I mean when I say bag seed.

  4. You can really only confirm the sexual expression of the plant once it is sexually mature. Pistils will appear around the upper nodes for females and pollen balls for males. If you are growing from a bag-seed then 9 times out of 10 it will be a female. Female plants have no Y chromosome so when they hermaphrodite to produce a seed (generally what you'll find in a bag is this sort of seed) there will be no Y chromosome to allow any male expression.

EDIT: This should be merged with the "dope is number 1" thread.

  5. LOL..apoth...originally this thread elsewhere was asking if anyone had a closet person inside them wanting to get out and mine was a grease monkey, I asked if others had add interests that seemed to conflict with ther hippy/planthead persona...some people came out and said they are closet war buffs, addicted to weightlifting etc...

and your one is money...bahahah..how against the grain is that...?

Not sure, but I spent the day trading as usual and managed to take about 50 ticks off the market. The dirty hippy in me feels dirty and suddenly wants a bath :P

  6. Yeah what happened yesterday everyone?

It was me with sharxx and kanje, and 2 people from AE!

LUCKILY, cactus and succulent society heads seem a bit more dedicated than your average ethnobot, so we got to hang with them and enjoy free christmas cake.

What if we held the next one at UniMelb? On the weekend it's practically deserted, nice wide open spaces with fresh mowed grass.

Under my couch is really messy.

  7. First up, Welcome to the forum Frut.

Doubt you have cordifolia judging by your location, much more likely to be rhombifolia. Considering the origins of cordifolia, the distribution of the plant in QLD makes more sense than to find it where you are. I haven't spotted a single cordifolia specimen south of NNSW, and even around there is heavily infested with rhombifolia.

I didn't want to add much because this thread really borders on the dodgy line to me, but why hasn't anyone mentioned steam distillation as the quickest method for quantification?

Just run your field with the roadside ephedrine/pseudoephedrine test to mark individuals of interest (because not every specimen will have what you want - I promise) and then return in season to harvest some root bark for distillation.

Some questions you need to ask yourself:

    * Do I have the correct identification knowledge of this plant

    * Do I have the chemistry know-how to attain my goal in a scientifically rigorous manner

    * Am I liable to get into a lot of trouble undertaking this study without the aegis of an educational institution (the answer is almost certainly yes)

  8. Can't believe I didn't notice that closet has taps in it! SO weird.

I think I am a closet foreign exchange trader. Supposed to be a dirty hippy who hates money and money men and all that represents. Why do I spend the majority of my day trading the USD vs the Yen?

Oh yeah I remember now, because there is no sane possible way to buy land in this country without having a jillion dollars or sticking to a job which means you can't enjoy the land.

  9. Layout will not be changed. I like the new modern layout.

While I also like the colours, there are several reasons why they will be changed

    1) it's the default, so every new forum will look like this

    2) blue is the most common forum colour

    3) the Corroboree is associated with earthy ochre tones

While we might not get exactly the same colours back [i'll decide as I go along], it will definitely revert back to the earthy ochres.

It'd be great if instead of hardcoding the colour changes into the forum style code there could be a theme so users can select. Big orange screen being slightly less than discrete when not browsing within the confines of ones own 'puter.

  10. mac yeah salicina is just one of the ash plants. in Pitjantjatjara country, a type of grevillia is used with gosei, for making ash, in western NSW there is yet a different acacia, there are many different plants used for ash making, i think mulga too has been used for ash in some parts of australia. and if south america you got the chonta palm that is used for ash there as well as other plants, i would like to look up how to make those llipita balls (sp?) the ones they chew coca with.

might make one specific to australia.

torsten, i agree it is a wonderful thing.

I am very interested in the whole ash thing. Apparently there is some traditional use of Lactuca whereby the latex is mixed with ash before use (for the same reason I can only assume), I always tried to find out which plant the ash was made from but could never find a reference. If anyone knows, it might be a good bit of useful info to have - i.e. another non-native plant good for ash.

  11. I'm not to sure about the hacking up the roof plan, I am hoping that with the winter sun lower in the sky, it will gett enough light to let plants grow. Pulling out the seats should be no problem, and I have some old wardrobe doors I can stack on milk crates to make some shelves. Plenty of time to think it through before it gets cold

Don't pull all the seats out, if you rip slits in them you can put pots in the slits and the seat foam will keep them warm!

  12. I think in excess of $200 would have covered this years event wt. Ronny didn't want to push the price there because he loves everyone too much :P

  13. Sugar water is sprayed onto buds so they shape and then retain a "block" form when being compressed and transported from my understanding, has nothing to do with weight. I've definitely seen a few buds with one "front" sprayed and the other "front" looking normal.

Can confirm the gravox business, seen it down here as well and heard about it from others.

I reckon "the go" is mostly gangsters running weed like any other business, having their profit margins squeezed by police or competition so they try to make up the difference. Everyone's willing to pass the buck so long as it doesn't stop with them. Never let it stop with you, if you don't like the buck pass the buck back!

  14. I think in oz vasopressin is only used for juvenile bedwetting.

I played with it a few years ago and found it unremarkable.

As far as I know that is the only legitimate reason to get vasopressin in Aus.

Surprised to hear your second comment since a few of your posts refer to the adrenergic/GABA play and their effect on vasopressin levels.
