    bluemeanies around bribane ?

That's a really risky paddock that one. It seems like that's the most famous paddock in brisbane, so you get lots of first timers come up to you start chatting, asking you how many you've collected and what's a good amount to use, showing you their mushrooms, and asking if they're the good ones etc. Problem there is, what if they're a cop?, you've incriminated yourself big time. Ok so most mushroom pickers that look like 16yo's aren't cops but still. Other problem is the huge main road, and I've wondered to myself how many times the farmer has called the police to get people off his land and away from his cows, and if it is on a daily basis after rain (this time of the year), would the police bother with a big sting operation one day, and would that day be the day I was there?!!! I think mushrooms are too mainstream these days to risk a paddock like that. When I was at school it was just 'hippies' that collected mushrooms, but now it's everyone.

    Help with sourcing Calcium carbonate????

my lime is listed as 90-95% pure. I don't remember how expensive it was, what impressed me was how fine the powder was, and as such much greater neutralising ability. I hope it doesn't have sodium chloride in it. I go out of my way to not use any fertilisers with potassium chloride. Chlorides suck.

    Help with sourcing Calcium carbonate????

I'd assume you're just not familiar with reading fertiliser labeling as I'd very much doubt a product with 34% calcium carbonate can legally be called lime. If the bag said something like this: Analysis (dry weight basis) %WW Calcium (Ca) as Calcium Carbonate 34.0% It does not mean it contains 34% calcium carbonate it means it contains 34% calcium in the form of calcium carbonate. Like I say that's about 85% calcium carbonate. If the rest was magnesium carbonate I think it would have to be labelled dolomite, so probably mostly inert. It sounds like a cheap product with only 34% you should expect over 38%. If you're worried about the non caco3 portion spend a couple of dollars more on a 'premium grade', it should say that on the bag.

That's calcium chloride. Calcium carbonate isn't hygroscopic

no way. Not if you want calcium carbonate

    Help with sourcing Calcium carbonate????

What you're saying doesn't appear to make any sense. Assuming the 34% said calcium and not calcium carbonate then that equals about 85% calcium carbonate. The 74% neutralising is probably a figure that desfribes the quality of it's neutralising ability in soil, relating to purity and finesse of powder And that assumes calcium carbonate is the only calcium compound in it.

Laser printers are used to spy on you

Yeah I knew that in most cases Independents never bought new prints, but that would also mean they never got the prints first so a person with a camcorder at their cinema shouldn't be a problem as the film would no longer be new so there would be no demand for a pirate copy, so the finger pointing would be at the original purchaser. In the film I saw (Big Fish) I first KNEW I saw something strange with the dots when Ewan McGregor was talking to Helena Bonham Carter at her door. This is quite late into the film, and it jolted my subconscious into remembering that I had seen these coloured dots at other stages in the film also, though I could not identity where. Just incase anyone were to think I'm confusing the reel change circle that appears in right hand top corner of the print, I'm not. These dots were large and coloured, in the middle of the frame and formed a pattern. I can't be sure what it means but it's suspicious.

    Sterilising mushrooms for drying

That sounds easy enough. I had imagined freezing raw mushrooms would result in mushroom slop after thawing due to ice crystals destroying the cell wall, but after a short search on the net didn't see anything that said that.

Laser printers are used to spy on you

They are also doing this dot thing with Films that are being shown at cinemas. I first noticed it in a movie called "Big Fish" . For maybe 5 frames you see an arrangement of dots. The dots likely ID the film print and can tell a distributor to which chain of cinemas that print of the film was sent to, or maybe it could be even more specific, like what city, though making a different print for each cinema seems unlikely. When distributors see their movies on the internet or pirate copies being sold on DVD, they can tell where the film was pirated, and perhaps extra security including illumination of the cinema by near infra red lights in those areas where the film was pirated. I don't see any films at the cinema any more, but the dot thing is probably common place now.

    Sterilising mushrooms for drying

It's hard to know what to do, drying them with calcium chloride you're sure to lose a good percentage to maggots, maybe if you think you'll use the dried mushrooms in the next couple of months you'd be better off using heat.

    Legality of Sida herb?

When I last had reason to need to know it was S4, however there were all these restrictions on it. Only available to public hospitals or through public hospitals I think, but there is no way you can get a prescription for it from a GP etc. Pharmacists do not stock it. In reality although S4 there is tigher control on it than S8 medications. .

    Police Radar Detection

I reckon I"ve thought of a possible way to beat those speed cameras that use the infra red flash guns at night. You'd have a detector that detects the burst of infra red light which triggers a flash unit in the rear window to fire. You could just use a conventional flash with over exposed 35mm negative film(ie 100% black) as a filter to block the visible light l but allow the IR light to pass. If the flash was right next to the number plate it would definitely blow out the picture and obscure the number plate but that's not practical, though even if was located at the bottom of the rear window it may still do enough damage. You may think by the time the speed camera has taken it's shot the shutter would have already closed by the time my flash fires back, but this isn't a new principal, photographers have been using this technique to take photos for decades. The slave flash units detect the light from the primary flash gun and fire in sync. I got that idea when I was using a camera in night shot mode and another guy with a nightshot camera filmed me as I was filming him . The infra red LED's on both cameras completely overload the picture.

    Damiana Lust

Where did you see it, what sort of establishment and how much? I would have thought 95% alcohol would not be legal for open sale unless it was sold with excise included. So a litre of 95% alcohol would be almost $60 in excise alone. And if you were to use the alcohol for a non beverage use you'd have to have the paperwork and permit to buy it without the excise. Though I'd love to be corrected on this.

    Mushroom experience poll

That's bloody terrifying. When I've been mushroom picking in the suburbs near busy roads that's always been a nightmare fear of mine. Police not only catch me with the mushrooms, they make the assumption I've been here before and have more at home, and home was my parents house at the time. So something as innocent as mushroom picking turns into a drug charge, a trespass charge, and because I"M usually drying at home as I'm picking more, they throw in some drug processing or manufacture charge , oh and then there's the various other substances they would have found, and ofcourse the humiliation and shame of the parents having the police there and then assuming I"M some sort of drug addicted junkie. And all that because of picking mushrooms in a field BUT I DIDN'T THINK IT COULD REALLY HAPPEN!@!! I"M glad I read your post.

Were you caught picking mushrooms too?Surely that doesn't give the police a legal right to search your home, or did you consent to the search for some reason? [ 01. October 2005, 10:49: Message edited by: blog ]
  17. I just seem to be advertising lots of TV shows to watch, but that's only because they fit so well into the topic at hand. On UKnova you can watch the 3 part documentary series called "The Power of Nightmares" . I found it enlightening others may not agree with it's message. The following is a transcript of the introduction: ************ The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear In the past politicians promised to create a better world, they had different ways of achieving this but their power came from the optimistic visions they offered their people. Those dreams failed and today people have lost faith in ideologies. Increasingly politicians are seen simply as managers of public life, but now they have discovered a new role that restores their power and authority. Instead of delivering dreams politicians are promising to protect us from nightmares They say they will rescue us from dreadful dangers that we can not see and do not understand and the greatest danger of all is international terrorism. The powerful and sinister network with sleeper cells in countries across the world, a threat that needs to be fought on a war on terror. But much of this threat is a fantasy which has been exaggerated and distorted by politicians. It's a dark illusion that has spread unquestioned through governments around the world, the security services, and the international media. This is a series of films about how and why that fantasy was created and who it benefits. At the heart of this story are 2 groups. The American neo-conservatives and the radical islamists. Both were idealists who were born out of the failure to build a better world. These two groups have changed the world but not in the way either have intended. Together they created today's nightmare vision of a secret organised evil that threatens the world, a fantasy that politicians then found restored their power and authority in a disillusioned age, and those with the darkest fears became the most powerful. 1700mb / 180mins [ 29. DAVID ICKE NEWSLETTER 2 SEPTEMBER 2005

I think it's accepted theory now that there are 2 forces at work. Green house gasses that heat the planet up and airborn particle pollution that keeps the earth cooler. The theory is the earth is a hell of a lot more fucked than we realised. The 2 effects cancel out each other. If you concentrate on only getting rid of green house gasses the world starts to freeze up, or if you remove airborn particle pollution you burn the planet up. Need to address both problems simultaneously or we'll destroy ourselves. Well something along those lines [ 29. September 2005, 05:56: Message edited by: blog ]

Sniffer dogs now legal in Queensland

It's interesting that they don't train the dogs to sniff out marijuana. Probably a deliberate concession because of the huge social acceptability of that drug, and repercussions resulting from law abiding constituents being treated like heroin addicts. Edit: Oh I noticed they aren't trained to detect opiates either. Maybe they really are just cracking down on the clubbing culture of drug taking. [ 29. DAVID ICKE NEWSLETTER 2 SEPTEMBER 2005

That's what the Jews say, but they're the most paranoid people on earth. If you want to see a really good Doco about David Icke you can download it from Uknova. It's title is: Secret Rulers Of The World - Ep 2 - David Icke, the Lizards and the Jews ********* Jon Ronson encounters one of Britain's most infamous media figures, David Icke, on a lecture tour that takes the ex-sports broadcaster and self-proclaimed "Son of God" headlong into controversy. Icke has resurrected his career and now lectures to packed houses around the world. He claims that the ruling elite are genetically descended from a race of 12-foot, blood-drinking, shape-shifting lizards... But when Icke says 'lizards' does he actually mean 'lizards'? Or does he, as a powerful coalition of prominent Jewish groups claim, mean Jews; an accusation which Icke denies adamantly? The programme provides a fascinating insight into extremists - and how the public responds to them. 181mb / 48m:54s [ 29. September 2005, 04:11: Message edited by: blog ]

    Recourse for inapproriate surveillance?

I have this ex friend who when questioned by police gives them my details. We are approx same height, eye and hair colour etc. I found this out a few years ago when my parents were called by the police telling them I was intoxicated and they were bringing me home. Only problem was that I already was at home only the parents didn't know that so thought it was legit. Strange thing is "I" never came home, so I think that slippery fuck must have given the police another address to take him to. I went to the police station the next day told them what had occurred but they weren't interested in the slightest. I also seeked to have information put on the police computers that if I am picked up, or fined for something, the person stating that they are me, may not be me and are in fact this other person. They did not want to know about that either, saying that I could use that as a premeditated alibi. I then said ok would you make it a condition that If I'm picked up for anything that I must show a drivers licence, and if I can not show a drivers licence then It's probably not me. He wanked on that it was against my civil liberties to have to carry a drivers licence So... That doesn't really have anything to do with your problem does it. I just wanted to whinge about police [ 29. September 2005, 02:27: Message edited by: blog ]

    plastered on kava

I have Vanuatu Kava. Doesn't have the characteristic numbing effects of the lips/mouth though it does give you a very strong relaxing/stoning effect and can give you a hang over sort of effect. A Fijian told me Vanuatu kava growers put their kava roots in big 44 gallon drums of water containing a vine of some sort. And this is how they can make their weak immature kava strong. The active of the vine is absorbed into the kava I don't know if there's any truth In that, but It would explain the lack of numbness yet a very noticeable effect. I am so concerned that I no longer drink it, as I can't be sure what is the active. It's not likely kavalactones. [ 29. September 2005, 01:43: Message edited by: blog ]

    lime sulphur

Maybe you're allergic to sulphur or sulphites. I've had sulphur spray blow back into my face but not had any reaction. ************* TOXICOLOGY Sulfur can cause irritation of the skin and eyes and if inhaled cause inflamation in the nasal mucosa, lung irritation and occasional bloody mucous secretions, disorders which usually clear up within days of removal from exposure. Broncho pulmonary disease may occur which, after exposure over several years, may be complicated by emphysema and broncheitasis (EXTOXNET 1995). Research investigating sulfur as a cause of allergic dermatitis in nursery workers revealed an allergic sensitivity in as many as 10% of the workers sampled. This high frequency of allergic response was unexpected. The study was not designed to evaluate the chemical transformation of sulfur once in contact with human skin. Elemental sulfur is chemically transformed in the environment into sulfites which are known to be allergenic to approximately 1 1/2% of the population. Further research is needed to determine if elemental sulfur causes skin and lung reactions, or if sulfites as transformation products are implicated. Potentially both chemicals could be involved (O'Malley 1996).

    methylated spirits filth

It's probably the denaturant you're tasting, they use a bittering agent that's very potent, almost to the same degree as an undistiled wormwood ethanol extraction. You could use methanol or Specially Methylated Spirits, that's availabe at Pharmacies. This is 90% ethanol 10% methanol or slightly different ratios. But it's pure, no other chemicals in it. [ 12.
