  1. My HBWR doesn't seed, it flowers, just never seeds. It's in the garden, rather than a pot. I don't use any fertiliser and don't' water it, as I thought I recalled ssomething about morning glory and HBWR being less likely to seed in comination . Is this a common problem, and is there a common antidote. It gets plenty of sun, looks healthy enough, just no seeds.

    Which Fertiliser to use ?

Anything with ammonium nitrate in it is horrendously acidic. You can feel it burning your hand if you're making up an aqueous solution, and if you have a cut or a nick , you mightt just start screaming. So I look for the Nitrogen component to be something else other than ammonium nitrate or urea. When you buy that cheap slow release fertiliser from supermarkets and the like that contains Ammonium nitrate, i'm pretty sure the nitrogen isn't slow release at all. I've seen bits of the granule just dissolve away infront of me when tested with putting them in some water. I suspect that to be the AN.

    Kava Preparation

Yeah I don't know what the go is with the milk crazyness. someone just decided kavalactones aren't soluable in water, but soluble in milk, so better stick in milk. The reality is that kava drink is brown because it's kava in suspension. It doesn't need to be soluble in water. Nobody in fiji or Vanuatu uses milk. Probably nobody anywhere does in traditional use.

    Internet censorship?

That is a great example. I can't see the government banning actual URL's, say the link to a particular youtube video, more likely they'd just ban youtube. But imagine the political ramifications of doing that. Hopefully they stick it in the 'too hard' basket & just forget about mandatory filters.

    Internet censorship?

The problem is that if you used a webspider to download erowid, or even this site. The police raided you for whatever reason, took away your computer as often is done in raids these days. You would likely have multiple charges brought against you. Material on this website is illegal, certainly material on Erowid is illegal. So it wouldn't be so much showing a discrimination or bias against sites & the information contained within, but censoring of illegal content. And at LEAST, that's what this mandatory filter will do. The drug laws only seem to cover information pertaining to producing drugs, but any instruction in drug use is banned material in Australia. Publishing or possessing instructions for producing dangerous drugs (1) A person who unlawfully publishes instructions, or unlawfully has possession of a document containing instructions, about the way to produce a dangerous drug commits a crime. s 9 16 s 9 Drugs Misuse Act 1986 Maximum penalty— (a) if the dangerous drug to which the instructions relate is a thing specified in the Drugs Misuse Regulation 1987, schedule 1—25 years imprisonment; or ( if the dangerous drug to which the instructions relate is a thing specified in the Drugs Misuse Regulation 1987, schedule 2—20 years imprisonment.

    High Pressure Sodium Lamp

This picture shows the limitation of sodium lights. Photosynthesis really does want blue light, sodium only gives it some red spectrum. I remember reading some nasa study about growing plants in space and the most efficient way of doing it. The recommendation was for 2 highly efficient lights, one red and one blue. edit, found something that relates to what I read. Red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are a potential light source for growing plants in spaceflight systems because of their safety, small mass and volume, wavelength specificity, and longevity. Despite these attractive features, red LEDs must satisfy requirements for plant photosynthesis and photomorphogenesis for successful growth and seed yield. To determine the influence of gallium aluminium arsenide (GaAIAs) red LEDs on wheat photomorphogenesis, photosynthesis, and seed yield, wheat plants were grown under red LEDs and compared to plants grown under daylight fluorescent (white) lamps and red LEDs supplemented with either 1% or 10% blue light from blue fluorescent (BF) lamps. Compared to white light-grown plants, wheat grown under red LEDs alone demonstrated less main culm development during vegetative growth through preanthesis, while showing a longer flag leaf at 40 DAP and greater main culm length at final harvest (70 DAP). As supplemental BF light was increased with red LEDs, shoot dry matter and net leaf photosynthesis rate increased. At final harvest, wheat grown under red LEDs alone displayed fewer subtillers and a lower seed yield compared to plants grown under white light. Wheat grown under red LEDs + 10% BF light had comparable shoot dry matter accumulation and seed yield relative to wheat grown under white light. These results indicate that wheat can complete its life cycle under red LEDs alone, but larger plants and greater amounts of seed are produced in the presence of red LEDs supplemented with a quantity of blue light.

    No opt-out web filtering

It's an interesting clause that one. As the category is restricted to activity between consenting adults, it does not permit any depictions of non-adult persons, including those aged 16 or 17, nor of adult persons who look like they are under 18 years. I thought it just sounded a little strange. Why state 'including those aged 16 or 17' when those ages are obviously under 18. And I also thought it strange that a person can 'appear 17' , which apparently is different to appearing 18. So I had a look at older legislation and before September 2000, the laws were different. Material was refused classification (and illegal ) if: (material) ( depicts or describes, in a way that is likely to cause offence to a reasonable adult, a person who is, or looks like, a child under 16 (whether the person is engaged in sexual activity or not); or So it seems the porn laws from 1983-2000 were aligned with age of sexual consent laws. You didn't' have the situation of being able to legally have sexual relations with your 16yo partner, but not legally record a video of the event. They've basically changed the age from 16 to 18 for porn but not the wording in relation to the age which is why it doesn't make much sense. I think it's very reasonable to have a law stating that if a person looks under 16, even if they're older, then it should be considered kiddie porn. When you're talking 14 or 15yo's (or those that appear to be of that age) in porn movies, well that's more than a little creepy, and I don't' think any reasonable person would disagree. There could be many a 16yos that looks younger due to delays in puberty. But saying you can differentiate between a 17yo and a 18yo is almost like saying it's possible to differentiate between a 20yo and a 21yo. It becomes nonsensical. I was interested in seeing a porno that had been banned here and yet so mainstream it was unlikely to have been banned due to fetishes or violence. I found a `Girls gone Wild` movie on a streaming website, that was refused classification last year. It's very tame, basically 'crazy wild american spring break girls` masturbating. So I watched all 55 annoying minutes of that crap without fastforwarding, and had no idea why it was banned, except that the OFLC must have decided one or more of the girls looked like they were under 18, even though the credits stated otehrwise: "All models, actors, actresses and other persons that appear in any visual portrayal of actual or simulated sexually explicit conduct appearing on, or otherwise contained in, this video were over the age of eighteen (18) years at the time the visual image was produced. Records required by Title 18 U.S.C. §2257 are on file with the Records Custodian listed below." Also found it interesting that a porno produced by Hustler Magazine (USA) was forwarded to the OFLC by the Ballarat Victorian Police earlier this year and classified RC , thus presumably resulting in some sort of kiddie porn charge. My basic point is that applying this 'appears to look under 18' clause would probably ban every porn site on the internet under the best case 'opt out of filter' situation of allowing legal porn as under Australian law these sites would all contain illegal content. And I think this is a good situation, as everyone likes porn, and if even the most mainstream of sites are banned the more the backlash will be, which could save sites like this & Erowid by preventing any filtering at all.

    No opt-out web filtering

It's even possible that this website could be banned (technically). I could see that it might fall foul of the publications act, certainly websites like Erowid would. Publications will be classified ‘RC’ : (if they contain) © detailed instruction in: (i) matters of crime or violence, (ii) the use of proscribed drugs; & Drug Use: Descriptions and depictions of drug use may be permitted. Detailed instruction in drug use is not permitted. Drug use should not be promoted or encouraged. *note A classification of RC = banned.

The telecommunications act regulates Australian servers & services. Doesn't work with overseas servers outside of Australia's jurisdiction. If you did apply the act then even once you opt out of the netfilter The web will still be censored at MA15+, with every other site black listed. It's not like international servers would head the demands of the OFLC,Doesn't make sense. The importance of X18+ is to determine what is unlawful when viewed in Australia. if porn doesn't fall within X18+, then it's RC, which can lead to prosecution if you were to possess the image or video, but more importantly under my 'opt out filter' simulation the Classification determines weather a website will be blocked. X18+ plays an important part in criminal law, not just for what's permitable in the territories. The end result will still be mass censorship even under my scheme for reasons I've made previously and is out of touch with real 'standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults'. I don't think the facts on how the 'opt out' filter system will function are known publicly yet.

    No opt-out web filtering

At this point I figure they probably have the intention of allowing X18+ rated porn if you choose to 'opt out' of the family friendly mode. May not be legal to buy in the states but it is legal to view & possess. Problem is because of the strictness of the X18+ rating, they will probably end up having to ban almost all hardcore porn sites to prevent the OTHER porn on those sites from being viewed. X18+ - RESTRICTED CONTAINS CONSENSUAL SEXUALLY EXPLICIT ACTIVITY Note: This classification category applies only to films. This classification is a special and legally restricted category which contains only sexually explicit material. No depiction of violence, sexual violence, sexualised violence or coercion is allowed in the category. It does not allow sexually assaultive language. Nor does it allow consensual depictions which purposefully demean anyone involved in that activity for the enjoyment of viewers. Fetishes such as body piercing, application of substances such as candle wax, ‘golden showers’, bondage, spanking or fisting are not permitted. As the category is restricted to activity between consenting adults, it does not permit any depictions of non-adult persons, including those aged 16 or 17, nor of adult persons who look like they are under 18 years. Nor does it permit persons 18 years of age or over to be portrayed as minors. Especially with role-playing and acting combined with other mild fetishes that are seen as mainstream in Netporn but would be refused classification here. It's good because the censorship will be so obvious to a porn loving majority, and so niche information and news resources that a smaller percentile care about may become more relevant. Although porn is very mainstream now, those that would want it back are more likely to champion other causes for why the compulsory filter is a bad idea. Porn the victim and the saviour.

    GHB in children's toys

I've only ever taken the chemical that's involved in the bindeez beads once, and I had quite a violent adverse reaction. I recall it triggered the vomiting reflex, and I was constantly puking or at least attempting to vomit (after stomach contents was evacuated) for many minutes. I was vomiting blood. The solvent obviously damaged some part of my digestive tract. It's interesting to me that this occurred. I've never had a problem with GHB, however I could not tolerate 1,4 butanediol. That being the case, it could be seen as quite reasonable to call 1,4 butanediol toxic, disregarding what it is metabolised into.

How are those scales as far as the weight measurement drifting? If I put a 10c coin on it, then tare to 0, add a few more coins, remove all the weight, and maybe 30 seconds later put the 10c coin back on. Will it still show a reading that wont' have drifted by more than 1/10th of a gram? This is the problem with my current scales, it might be an expected of any cheap scales

I'm unsure weather 'crystal meth' is the term Americans use for Meth and as it's gained in popularity over there and as such more media reports, our idiot media have started using the same American term for what they and we used to call 'meth' or weather 'crystal meth' is some sort of new meth?

There was something in the newspaper a few months ago that mentioned in the 12 months preceding in the state of Qld there had not been one positive drug test of alleged victims of drink spiking. There were plenty of women that decided their drinks had been spiked but of those tested none actually had been.

    Police Dogs and weed.

Hi, I know areas where police randomly do car checks for drugs with dogs and I wondered what sort of containers could guarantee you the dog wouldn't smell anything? My query really only relates to weed and a hypothetical event. I was thinking steel or glass containers. Maybe a paint tin, or a glass bottle with screw on tin lid. Both airtight. ie you tested them underwater, and no water made it in. Assuming there was no contamination of the external of the vessel is a dog actually able to smell weed through metal or glass? If so, how about a glass or metal container submerged in a glass or metal container of water. Acting sort of like an insulation of any aroma that could escape through metal or glass.
  22. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...27/ixworld.html A "trophy" video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet. The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis. The video, which first appeared on a website that has been linked unofficially to Aegis Defence Services, contained four separate clips, in which security guards open fire with automatic rifles at civilian cars. All of the shooting incidents apparently took place on "route Irish", a road that links the airport to Baghdad. video - http://tomgriffin.typepad.com/AEGISPSD.wmv
