Cacti garden vs leaving them in pots?

I think I'll be leaving the majority in pots as suggested. Doesn't sound like 1.5 years in the ground will be worth extra effort. Might plant out 1 or 2 just for comparisons sake. Thanks for the input everyone! Cheers, J.
  8. Hi guys/girls, I need to repot all my green fellas, or alternatively I could start a garden I'm leaning towards the garden. However there are a few things that I need to consider that may be holding me back. 1. Environmental factors - potentially flooding, morning frosts, temperature range from potentially 0 - 45 degrees Celsius. 2. Time at this location - as i plan on moving house at the end of next year. Taking these into consideration, I guess the question I'm asking is whether planting my spiky green fellas is going to be beneficial for their overall health, growth, and flowering potential. If so, would the benefits really show in a period of 1.5 years? Or would planting out be seen more as a long term benefit for someone staying in the same place for an extended period. This decision isn't taking into account how awesome it would be to have a nice little cacti garden to tend to over the next year or so. It is purely based on health, growth, and flowering potential. Why? As I'd rather have amazingly healthy and beasty specimins to build a wonderful garden with at my new location. A garden like col's would be great Money isn't to much of a factor either. Pots (Evironmental Factors) - Currently located under an awning to protect from over night frosts - Easily movable to dry areas when back yard floods - Not subject to rain watering or potential over watering (under awning/sheltered) - Currently receives sunlight from around 12pm till sun down (5 or 6pm) - Appear to be quite healthy, not sunburnt, not elongated, no rot, no scale, no disease etc. - Although spiders love to web them up and live in their ribs. Perceived benefits: easy protection from floods, sun/temperature, frost Potential negatives: Inhibited growth? Black pots leading to root burn? Proposed Garden Plan (Evironmental Factors) - Slightly slanted location (help reduce potential of rot via flooding) - Raised bed - 15cm? Should it be raise more? (increase height to help reduce potential of rot via flooding) - 50% standard gardening soil/potting mix, 50% pebbles (increase drainage to help reduce potential of rot via heavy rain and flooding) - Will receive morning sun till 3pm or 4pm Perceived benefits: increase sunlight, full growth potential?, roots are protected from heat/burn. Potential negatives: 40 - 45 degree temps for maybe a week or two (might be able to workout shade cloth to cover the area in this period), frost, heavy rain at times, flooding? (flooding may not be a problem with above plan) Given they'll only be in the ground for a period of 1.5 years, is it worth it? Family member might remain at this residence, so i could always top them, start a new garden, and leave the base for them to regrow. Or alternatively, dig them out. Is there anything else I've missed or need to take into consideration? Do you think there are benefits of planting them out given my concerns? Thanks for your help! Any comments and advice is welcomed

Cacti garden vs leaving them in pots?

Just a few .. Sizes range from 40-90cm. My largest is a 90cm Roseii 1 which is around 18inches fat at its widest. Glad she doesn't diet as much as my GF . Cheers Myco, I appreciate your input. Is that based on effort though? haha

    Muscle mass

Use to be a bit of a gym junkie when I was younger. I'm no expert, and the 'sciene' is always changing. However the basics are... Most important thing is growing thing in growing muscle mass is lifting heavy weight with good form, and your diet. Start with the macro nutrients; - Protein (muscle growth) - Fat (hormone production) - Carbohydrates (energy) You might want to use protein supplements if you daily protein intake isn't adequate. Not necessary, but helps to ensure you meet macro goals. Next you'll want to take care of micro nutrients. Supplement with a decent multivitamin. Then... once you've gotten into the swing of things and you are working out regularly, you might want to start using pre-workout drinks/stimulants. Although this is really not going to help until you, until you know what your doing in the gym. Then... Might look at adding BCAA's pre-workout or mid workout to prevent muscles being broken down for energy during workouts. Then... might look at adding Creatine into the mix - this will make your body retain more water, so you'll look bigger, and it will aid your muscular endurance and strength, which will lead to greater gains if you're pushing yourself. Again this isn't going to help without proper technique and isn't much use until you body has already adapted. Also once you stop using creatine you will "shrink" slightly as the water weight dissipates. Nothing will get results better than hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. There is a Ausbb forum with some decent threads on starting out. Look for shiz Fadi posts. He was a world class weight lifter and body builder and certainly knows his shiz.

had a massive car accident this morning

Hey man, glad to hear you are okay! Not sure how things work over in SA, but in NSW this is how we roll; - If the other driver is deemed to be at fault and he/she has third party property insurance it will cover the cost of your car and you won't have to spend a cent. - Also his compulsory third party "green slip" insurance will cover you for any medical treatments if required. - Unfortunately (atleast in NSW legislation), I'm pretty sure "journey claims" are no longer covered by employment insurance. Journey claim is anything that occurs to you on your way to or from work. If you've started working for the day, and have to travel for work, than its still covered. This is a new change is NSW legislation do it may not apply to SA. You might wake up sore tomorrow. If so see a doctor incase there are ongoing problems, atleast it will be documented that it was a result of the accident, so you won't have grief trying to claim for treatment later on. Take care man! *edit Journey claim info is based in NSW legislation

free cactus seedlings - pickup only

Love the generosity! Pretty sure someone will jump on these quick, but If they haven't disappeared in a months time and you're still looking to hand them off; I'd be happy to make the trip down to the gong, and spread the love by distributing them at the next Syd/Central Coast/Newy meet. Ps. You should come along for a meet sometime. The gong isn't that far, and the people I've met so far at these meets have been awesome.

  17. Hey guys, Thought this may be of interest to some of you. DMAA is commonly found in pre-workout drinks (eg. Jacked3D), and in some of those dodgy legal party pills that are often sold by various online vendors. It's sometimes listed as geranium extract in the ingredients sections. Anyway there is a proposal to move it into schedule 9 (same as heroin, LSD, Ecstasy, DMT etc.) http://www.tga.gov.a...06.htm#proposed ***Might be better suited to the legal matters subforum***
